Soccer: Page thrives in special Homecoming debut
The Lady Patriots tip Centennial on school's big stage for first time.
By Charles Pulliam • Multimedia Reporter

FRANKLIN – Everything for the Page High School Homecoming went as planned this week. The school just switched which football was featured, highlighting the soccer pitch rather than the gridiron.

The Page girls soccer team did their part, coming away with a 1-0 non-conference win against visiting Centennial just a day removed from locking up the District 11-AA regular season title.

Just like nearly all Homecoming Fridays, the high school band provided plenty of entertainment, the home stands were packed and a rowdy student section provided a match-long dance party. A blown speaker in the second half didn’t stop the party either.

High School Football – Week 6
White, Walton lead Brentwood past Burros
By David Dawson • Sports Writer

BRENTWOOD — The White-to-Walton pipeline was gushing like never before for the Brentwood High School football team on Friday night.

Brentwood senior quarterback Davis White hooked up with senior wide receiver Aaron Walton for four touchdown passes — one in the first quarter, another in the second and two more in the third — to help the Bruins sail to a 31-7 non-district victory over winless Hillsboro on homecoming night at Brentwood.

White completed 22-of-33 passes for 208 yards, and Walton finished with seven catches for 96 yards. The senior tandem paired up for touchdown passes of 11 and 12 yards in the first half, and then produced long-distance scores — on TD passes covering 25 and 30 yards — in the third quarter for the Bruins, who improved to 2-4 overall.

Ravenwood uses 4 Parson TDs to overcome Commandos
By Doug Dyer Sports Writer

HENDERSONVILLE – Sometimes a football team wins a game when things don’t necessarily go as planned.

“In my opinion, football’s a game of adversity,” Ravenwood High School coach Will Hester said. “When things don’t go like they’re scripted, it’s about finding a way to make it happen.”

Ravenwood overcame some self-inflicted adversity and outlasted Hendersonville 35-28 Friday night, thanks in large part to four touchdowns from quarterback Chris Parson.

“I’m super proud of our team’s resiliency,” Hester said. “We’re not where we want to be, but we’re going that way.”

Wade scores 5 times, Summit runs away from Beech
Herald Sports

It looked for much of the first half like Class 6A No. 4-ranked Summit was in for a fight against visiting Beech Friday, but the Spartans’ Mr. Football contender called it off early.

The Buccaneers (3-2) tied the score at seven in the last minute of the first quarter, but it was all Summit (6-0) from there. Destin Wade scored five total touchdowns, and the Spartans cruised to a 39-7 victory.

Franklin gets season's first win on homecoming
Herald Sports

First-year Franklin head coach Alex Melton got to celebrate his first homecoming at FHS with his first win Friday.

The Admirals (1-5) got in the win column with a relatively drama-free 28-12 final against McGavock (3-2).

Two rushing scores apiece for Bryce Sparks and Ashton Orton paved the way for Franklin, which jumped out to a 14-0 first-half lead and eventually led 28-6 before a last-second Raiders score.

Centennial, Indy and Fairview all post Week 6 wins
Herald Sports

Four different players scored rushing touchdowns as the Centennial High School football team found its offense once again Friday in a non-region game against visiting Dickson County.

The home-standing Cougars scored 27 unanswered to claim a 41-7 win in Franklin.

Kofi Boggs, Cannon Plowman, Zavion Haddox and Kani Johnson all scored rushing TDs for Centennial, while Tanner Lee paced the ground game with 124 yards rushing on 16 carries.

Boggs struck first on a 50-yard run less than two minutes into the game, and after Dickson County answered with a Colby Lamberth 40-yard strike to Jessie Stewart, it was all Centennial the rest of the way.

State Supreme Court Justice Connie Clark dies after brief illness
71-year-old was first woman circuit court judge in 21st Judicial District

By Pam HorneFor the Herald

Tennesseans are mourning the passing of state Supreme Court Justice Cornelia A. “Connie” Clark, 71, a Franklin native whose devotion to her family, friends and community was surpassed only by her civic commitment to the law.

Gov. Bill Lee Friday morning ordered flags across the state flown at half-staff in memory of Clark, who was serving her second eight-year term on the state’s highest court. She died Thursday following a brief illness.

The public will be able to pay their respects Wednesday, Sept. 29, when Clark will lie in state at the Tennessee Capitol (details and funeral arrangements are being finalized).

Pilgrimage Festival to kick off day two with Sunday Service
By Tori Keafer Associate Editor

After a pilot in 2019, Pilgrimage Music & Cultural Festival will bring back its Sunday Service this year, inviting the community for an hour and a half of “rousing worship” to kick off day two of the festival.

“Music is about the healing power, about renewing your soul, about pain and suffering and redemption,” said Brandt Wood, the producer of Pilgrimage. “And to me, there’s no better place for a Sunday service than a music festival that really wants to celebrate music in all of its form and all of its genres, and that’s what Pilgrimage is.”

Wood said he ultimately credits Franklin and Williamson County for the idea to start the service because the local faith community inspired him and the other Pilgrimage’s creators to partner with a Christian nonprofit called I Am Second from the beginning.
