Unleash the Writer Within
Writer to Writer
Do you have an interest in writing? Would you like to learn from a pro? Unleash the Writer Within teaches you how to be YOU when you write. In Writer to Writer, Cec helps you become an excellent writer with valuable, bite-sized lessons.
Gifted Hands
As presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson travels the country, he tells his inspiring story about growing up in inner-city Detroit and beating remarkable odds to become one of the most celebrated neurosurgeons in the world. Cec worked with Dr. Carson many years ago to write that story in Gifted Hands.
U B U
A hair salon opened up in our area and on the front window I read U B U, spaced out in huge, red letters. As soon as I said the three letters aloud, I realized what they meant. I assume the salon’s objective was to give women the hairstyle that best expressed who they were. Good idea, but in our world, it’s difficult for You to Be You.
No matter how much others like us, they want to improve us—for our own good. It’s not that they dislike us, and maybe it’s because they do like us. However, they don’t accept us as we are but focus on who we might become, and thus “everyone” would like us better. And they might be correct.
A friend pointed out a quality in me he didn’t like. If I correct that fault, he said I’d be friendlier and better liked. I asked myself, Would it help me to become the person I want to be?
Sometimes we need to adapt or become different. And that’s all right if we change to become a better version of who we already are.
This makes me think of Bob, a childhood friend who, in his early sixties, said, “I hate my life.” He did what his parents and his wife expected of him, got an education, earned merit raises, bought the house his wife wanted as well as adult toys he was told would make him happy. He still hated his life and died two years later.
I wish Bob had learned to be who he was when he could still become who he wanted to be.

The Twila Zone--Words from My Assistant, Twila Belk
Cec and I just returned from the East Texas Christian Writers Conference. While there we had a great time reconnecting with our good writer friends Frank Ball and Jim Pence. The picture below left is Cec and me with Frank. (Yes, I flunked the how-to-take-selfies class!) On the right, Cec is with Jim and his wife, Laurel.

I saw on Facebook that November 1 was National Author's Day. A graphic accompanying the announcement said: The best way to thank an author is to write a review. Cec and I say "Amen!" to that. We're grateful for readers who appreciate our books and leave comments on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other online sites.
Are you looking for a speaker for an upcoming event? Cec enjoys meeting people and speaking to groups in the Atlanta area and nationwide. His many topics include: The Dark Side of Ministry, Christian Living, Personal Growth, Healing from Abuse (Physical, Verbal, Sexual), Self-care for Survivors of Abuse, Caregiving, Grief, Depression, Loneliness, Significant Aging, Healthy Living, and Writing. If you'd like more information, you're welcome to contact me. I'm happy to answer any questions.
On a personal note:
On October 26 and 28, I had the privilege of joining Deb Gustafson for the morning show on WDLM Moody Radio. We had lots of fun, and I'm pretty sure I didn't scare away too many listeners.
I'll speak in Bloomington and Peoria, Illinois, on November 17 & 18.
I became a grandma for the second time this year on the evening of October 31. I'm thrilled to welcome Leo Stephen Belk to the family!
If you're looking for a new daily devotional for yourself or as a gift for someone during the holidays, consider my book Raindrops from Heaven: Gentle Reminders of God's Power, Presence, and Purpose. In a recent review on Amazon, Adelle Dickie wrote: "Raindrops from Heaven is refreshment for my soul. I look forward to starting my day with not only the encouragement I receive but thoughts to ponder throughout the remainder of the day. I love the size and beauty of this book and I think it's a perfect gift! Thank you, Twila Belk, for sharing your insight and wisdom!" (Thank you, Adelle!)
