Good Morning:
I've added a few more stories to the 1978 Blizzard page.
From the Reading Pile: False alarms highlight weaknesses in national alert system.
If you want to sponsor IRW at a very economical cost, please drop me an e-mail.
Northeast
The Fort Wayne News-Sentinel profiles WBOI's (89.1fm, Fort Wayne) host Julia Meek.
Our best wishes to former WQHK-FM/WMEE-FM (105.1fm, Huntertown; 97.3fm, Fort Wayne) OM Dean McNeil, as he recovers from a double heart valve replacement and an aortic aneurysm repair. Mr. McNeil continues his recovery at home.
Northcentral
In 2000, Tommy Carroll joined WRBR (103.9fm, South Bend) as afternoon host. "103.9 The Bear" promoted him to PD in 2008 and again to Digital Content Director for their South Bend cluster in 2013. Mr. Carroll recently exited and will become PD/Afternoons for Townsquare Media at their WGRD in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Recently, CSN International applied to move their translator W292EM (106.3fm, Lafayette) to 103.5fm, due to interference with Forcht Broadcasting's WCDQ (106.3fm, Crawfordsville). The FCC recently dismissed CSN's request, as it's a major change.
The FCC would have granted this application if WCDQ had somehow modified their signal after the FCC licensed W292EM. That wasn't the case here, so that's why the FCC denied CSN's application.
Woof Boom Radio launches their 106.7fm, West Lafayette signal as an AC station WLQQ ("Q106.7; The Best of Yesterday and Today"). The first song was Maroon 5's "Wake Up Call." No airstaff yet, and here's their website.
Eastcentral
We don't have many other details, but Country/WIFE-FM (94.3fm, Connersville) morning newsman Mike Peacock retires from "94.3 WIFE-FM Hometown Country" after over a half century in broadcasting.
James Lee "Jim" Brewer II, the president of Brewer Media, died Feb. 1 of oral cancer. Mr. Brewer was the grandson of southern Indiana broadcasters Roland and Maytha Brewer. He started in radio at age 15 running the board for the Indianapolis 500 broadcast at the family radio station, WTCJ/1230am in Tell City. Mr. Brewer became a station owner in Chattanooga, Tennessee at age 28, growing today's Brewer Media cluster. Survivors include his father, James L. Brewer, Sr., who owns Brewer Broadcasting (WHON/WQLK) in Richmond. Mr. Brewer was 56.
