The School of Medicine offers graduate certificate programs to its Doctor of Medicine (MD) students who wish to gain focused expertise in a specific area. Each program has its own admission and completion requirements. Consider a certificate in Biomedical Ethics, Health Equity, LGBTQ Health, or Neurodevelopmental Disabilities. If you are a third year student just starting your Immersion Phase, be sure to take 2 Integrated Science Courses (ISCs) this year. If you do, scheduling your fourth year (with interviews, your Acting Internship, and possible away rotations) will be much easier!

Mario Davidson, PhD, MAS, MS, MA, is the new course director for Research PLAN, the intensive one-month research project-planning course. Dr. Davidson has carefully considered student feedback from AY2022-23 and past years to provide data-driven quality improvement. A few things students can expect for the new year: 1) a qualitative template for proposals, 2) more instruction on graphs, 3) increased opportunities for faculty-student interaction and 4) a frequently asked questions (FAQs) document for students.

| heart." Having been a PLAN facilitator since the course's inception, he has a deep understanding of the course. "I hope that students will hit the ground running on their research projects after having the course," he says.
When not teaching, researching, or providing statistical consulting, you can find him hanging out with his wife and two teenagers, playing music, or coaching a 9-10 recreational baseball team. If you want to get him talking, just ask him about baseball!

LGTBQ+ Health: Collaborating with VIVID Health program, students will spend time in LGBTQ+ health-focused clinics gaining experience with adult gender-affirming hormone therapy and HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).
Disability-Competent Care: Students will learn how to provide appropriate and equitable healthcare to individuals with disabilities. Clinical experiences will occur both within and outside of VUMC as well as in some non-medical settings.
