Thanksgiving Office Hours

The church office will close at noon today Wednesday, Nov. 22 and reopen at 8:30 am on Monday, Nov. 27. Happy Thanksgiving!
This Sunday we begin the season of Advent. Four weeks to reflect upon the truth that Christ has come, Christ will come again. Advent is a season where we name dual realities, the work of God in Christ here, now and the not yet of what still has yet to be done. We celebrate Emmanuel, God with us, and we also cry, “How long Lord? Come, Lord Jesus, Come.” We reflect upon the Incarnation and we wait, wait for the reconciliation and renewal begun in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus to be made fully complete, on earth as it is in heaven.

Over the next four weeks in worship we will walk through Advent together, lighting a candle each week as we go, and we will use our time in worship to think about the doctrine at the heart of the Christian faith, the Doctrine of the Incarnation. Bishop Will Willimon in his work Incarnation, The Surprising Overlap of Heaven and Earth reminds us that the “Almighty God the same being who hung the heavens and flung the stars in their courses, became a man who lived in Nazareth.”

I hope to see you each Sunday in Advent as we move toward the Christmas season. We have some special services planned including a children’s worship December 10 and “The Light of Christmas” musical celebration by our choir and handbells December 17.

PHUMC Women's Ministry has chosen MadCAAP's Angel Tree as their winter project. Pick an angel off the tree in the back of the Worship Center to choose a child to sponsor for Christmas. The information is on the Angel for the child's name and gift wishes. Have your gifts wrapped and labeled with the child's name placed beside the tree by the end of Worship service on December 17. Gifts will be delivered to MadCAAP on Monday.
