International Interreligious Conference Co-Hosted by Hebrew College Concludes
The Miller Center for Interreligious Learning & Leadership of Hebrew College was honored to co-host the 2023 conference of the International Council of Christians and Jews, one of the most important annual gatherings of Christian and Jewish leaders and scholars. Two of the conference’s four days of learning and dialogue were held at Hebrew College. Boston College, Boston University, and Simmons University also hosted various conference events.
“The ICCJ Conference 2023 highlighted the importance of thoughtful dialogue in fostering harmony and embracing diversity within the relationships of Christian and Jewish communities,” said Julia Verbeek, an ICCJ conference volunteer and anthropology Master of Arts student at the University of Vienna in Austria.
The ICCJ and its member organizations have a distinguished history of serving as change agents in Jewish-Christian relations—and Hebrew College was honored to contribute to that legacy by co-hosting the 2023 conference.

Striking out in all the wrong places

Part of the challenge of navigating life’s daily disappointments—the missed job opportunity, the terrible test results, the lost loved one—is that there is often no one or nothing concrete to blame. When our lives inexplicably veer off course, we know our fight is not with each other; it’s with G-d. But for many of us–as, perhaps, for the Israelites and even Moshe–moments of greatest loss are also moments when we feel furthest from the Divine. How can I lay my rage at G-d’s feet if it feels like G-d’s back is turned? And if bringing our grief to the Source of All feels out of reach, how do we avoid simply passing unfairness forward?

A Four Generation Relationship with Hebrew College:
From 1931 to the 2022-23 Teen Beit Midrash
Four generations after Samuel Zaritt z"l began the family journey as a member of one of the first graduating classes of Hebrew College (`31), the Zaritts’s connection to and involvement with Hebrew College’s educational philosophy still holds strong through Samuel’s son Yitzie Zaritt, a Prozdor and undergraduate alumnus of the College (`70); Yitzie’s wife Shoshanah Zaritt, who earned a Hebrew College Master of Liberal Studies; their sons who all attended then Hebrew College affiliate Camp Yavneh, including Will Corrdin who is also a Me’ah graduate; and great-grandson Ruben Corrdin, a third-year member of Hebrew College’s Teen Beit Midrash.
