Where Do We Start

Rev. Bill Sinkford

As we begin to move out of Covid-time, we know that we want to build back better and pursue dreams long deferred. Where do we start out in our broken world? Where do we start in our own spirits and in our faith?

Unexpected Beauty

Cassandra Scheffman, Director of Family Ministries

Spanish American philosopher George Santayana (also an atheist), may be best known for his work The Sense of Beauty (1896). He said, “Beauty as we feel it is something indescribable; what it is or what it means can never be said." Recently, I have been thinking a lot about beauty―more specifically, our perceptions of beauty. What do we find beautiful, what do we find not beautiful (or ugly…if that is even an accurate antonym) and why? Certainly, among us we have infinite ideas of what beauty is and is not...continued.

Local Fan & AC Drive: Thank you!

Dana Buhl, Social Justice Director

We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the fan and mini air conditioner drive organized by Emanuel Displaced Persons Association 2 (EDPA2) last Saturday. The team of volunteers collected and distributed close to 200 units to Portlanders who need a way to cool their living spaces as the climate crisis intensifies. Thank you for your generosity!
A second "Fan and AC Drive" forthcoming Saturday, August 14!

Do you have a reason to celebrate? Say it with flowers!
Beginning September 12

Fresh flowers will again grace the Chancel for Sunday services.
Do you have something to celebrate from this last 18 months? If you had a birth in the family, a graduation, a birthday, an anniversary, or a memorial, or other reasons to pause and reflect, you can acknowledge it to the entire congregation by sponsoring a floral bouquet. Sponsoring those flowers is a way to support the church and acknowledge life events.
As we reconnect with friends, say it with flowers on the Chancel.
