register to join us for the 2017 president's dinner

The entire Brebeuf Jesuit community is invited to join Father Jack Dennis, S.J. to celebrate and honor Tom and Melissa Pence as the 2017 President’s Medal Recipients. The celebration will take place on November 9, 2017 at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
As leaders in the Indianapolis community and supportive parents of Andrew, Jennifer, Samuel, Danae, Naomi, Tallal, and two grandchildren Noah and Remy, Tom and Melissa have demonstrated a deep commitment to Jesuit education through role model worthy volunteer involvement in their community, children's lives, and in support of the students, faculty and staff at Brebeuf Jesuit.
Tom served as a Brebeuf Jesuit Trustee from 2009-2016 where he chaired the Investment Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, College Counseling Task Force Committee and was a member of the Finance Committee. Together, Tom and Melissa are Magis Society members, have established an endowed scholarship fund to support financial aid, and supported the Kite Wellness Center and Leading the Way capital campaigns with leadership gifts.
In addition to the traditional awarding of the President’s Medal, we will also bestow the Heart of Brebeuf award on Father Paul Peterson, S.J. Fr. Paul first came to Brebeuf Jesuit in 1966, just four years after the school’s founding. In 1971, Fr. Paul left Brebeuf Jesuit to teach at Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles and Fairfield University in Connecticut. He returned to Brebeuf as a math teacher from 1999 to 2001, before departing for two years to serve parishes in Kentucky. He returned to Brebeuf Jesuit in 2003 to once again serve the school community.
Fr. Paul remains engaged in the Brebeuf Jesuit community, offering opening prayer at athletic events, attending school concerts and performances, conducting Mass and serving as the school’s alumni chaplain. He keeps himself physically and mentally fit with regular visits to the Wellness Center, writing poetry and playing the violin, which he began learning at age 50. Father Paul celebrated his 90th birthday on September 26th.

Loves About Brebeuf
I love the fact that everyone is welcome at Brebeuf. No matter who you are, the teachers, faculty, staff, students, and coaches all support you. There are tons of clubs and communities within Brebeuf to support one another, and I truly find that special. I love the fact that I can be Jewish at Brebeuf and feel like I belong. Brebeuf makes it easy to find your passion and live that passion. I love Brebeuf because of all the opportunities it has provided me over the past four years.
Favorite Class
My favorite class at Brebeuf is AP Calculus BC with Mr. Elliott. I enjoy coming to class every day and learning from him. I love the atmosphere in his classroom, and especially in his office hours. I truly feel welcome to learn any time throughout the day. I also really enjoy AP Physics C with Mr. Ellis. I am going to be studying a lot of physics in college, and he is guiding me along the right path.
Future Plans
I plan on studying engineering, specifically mechanical engineering. I am also interested in a double major with a degree in business. I am looking into walking on a lacrosse team in the fall to continue playing, and I am also planning on playing intramural basketball. I am not sure where I want to go to school next year, but Vanderbilt and Michigan are on my list.
Teams & Co-Curriculars
Basketball
Lacrosse
Ignatian Scholars
National Honor Society
Co-Founder of Investment Club
Jewish Student Union
Random Facts
I attended the Summer College Engineering Exposure Program (SCEEP) at the University of Michigan this past summer for 11 days. I had the opportunity to work with professors and engineering students to solve complex problems in the engineering field. My specific problem was securing the cyberspace. While I was there, I learned a lot about engineering and college life.
What is your current favorite show or series on tv, Netflix, etc?
My current favorite show is definitely Game of Thrones. My favorite series of all time is Entourage, but GOT is right up there.
What are your plans for Fall Break?
I plan on writing college essays and applying to some schools. I am possibly traveling to Lake Monroe for the weekend. If not, I plan on visiting a college or two to help decide where I want to go next year. I am planning to be done with all my applications by the end of Fall Break.
If you could travel to any place in the world, where would you go and why?
I would travel to Copenhagen, Denmark because I think it looks really cool. I like to travel and see different places, and Denmark is somewhere I wouldn’t normally get to travel to. I have heard from friends that Copenhagen is the most amazing place they have ever visited, and I would love the opportunity to see it someday.
What advice would you offer our Braves in the Class of 2021?
Make the most out of your high school career and don’t take any of it for granted. The past 3+ years at Brebeuf have been the best of my life, but they have gone by incredibly fast. I would give anything to be back in my freshman year with four years ahead of me. Enjoy yourselves here at Brebeuf because it goes by in an instant.

Freshman Service Days for the Fall Semester

We will begin accepting permission forms for the Class of 2021 Freshman Service Days next week!  Freshman Service Days are completely voluntary and do not count towards the Community Service credit at Brebeuf.  They are offered each year to the incoming freshmen to help introduce them to the part of Brebeuf Jesuit's mission of being men and women for others, and it is our hope that it will start them on a path of service beginning before and going far beyond the hours which they are required to complete during their junior and senior years.  This is also a great opportunity for freshmen to get to know more of their classmates outside of the classroom.
Freshmen can participate in one or all of the Freshman Service Days as space allows.  Class absences will be excused as long as permission slips are turned in 1 week prior to the trip.
Access the permission slip here.
If you have any questions, please contact Nick Klingler at nklingler@brebeuf.org, or 317.524.7005.

Barcelona Exchange Trip - April 2-16, 2018

This long-standing exchange program is an excellent opportunity for Brebeuf students to experience family life in a completely new culture! Students are immersed in the Spanish language, living with host families in Barcelona and attending school daily with their host student.
In addition to the host family experience, students will partake in many cultural excursions, among which is a full-day excursion to Manresa and Montserrat, two places with deep Jesuit roots.  Students will also tour the world-renowned Gaudí masterpiece, the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia, other Gaudí architectural wonders, and many other sites that are particular to Barcelona and Catalonian culture.
Two Brebeuf faculty or staff members will accompany the students and will be available to the students during their stay.  As a result of participating in the Barcelona Exchange Program, Brebeuf students gain confidence and proficiency in Spanish, and they deepen their understanding of other cultural practices and perspectives. They may even learn a bit of Catalán, the other official language of the region!  The experience is unforgettable and truly gives students a taste of the world beyond the doors of Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School.
Applications for the Barcelona Exchange 2018 program need to be completed and returned to Sra. Beck in the World Languages Department by Monday, October 23, 2017.
Students selected for the exchange program will be notified by Sunday, November 5, 2017.

#BrebeufDrives and Help for the Holidays Needs You

#BrebeufDrives begins this month!
Brebeuf Jesuit is renewing our community-wide effort, #BrebeufDrives, a program centered around uniting Brebeuf in giving and modeling service for the vulnerable and underserved populations of Indianapolis. These drives provide a great opportunity for our school community to actively be men and women for others. Any interested parents wishing to assist in these drives in our school community may contact Nick Klingler in Community Service at nklingler@brebeuf.org or Debra Parker at debrabparker@gmail.com.
As part of #BrebeufDrives, we are excited to launch our Help for the Holidays campaign. We will be collecting toys for the Christmas Store at the Catholic Charities Crisis Office. The Crisis Office serves vulnerable populations unable to provide basic necessities (shelter, food and clothing), targeting low-income (or no income) persons who need short-term assistance to maintain needs not being met by government programs.
This is the third year Brebeuf is supporting this wonderful program that provides an opportunity for families and individuals to shop for Christmas/Holiday gifts that they otherwise could not afford.
Volunteering for "Help for the Holidays" is a wonderful way to show our children and students that the entire Brebeuf community comes together to serve those who are less fortunate. This is a great way to see our students in action and it promises to be a lot of fun!
We hope you will sign up here to be a "Help for the Holidays" Homeroom Coordinator. Each homeroom will be collecting items over a four-week period for the Christmas Store. As a Homeroom Coordinator, your responsibilities will include visiting your assigned homeroom on Thursday, October 26, Thursday, November 9 and Tuesday, November 28 from 9:50 a.m. - 10:15 a.m. each visit.
Volunteers will introduce the Help for the Holidays drive, coordinate a signup for the students to bring in items, and once the items are collected, deliver them to the Chapel.
An information packet which will include talking points, students' names and a sign up sheet may be picked up on Thursday, October 26 at 9:45 a.m. in the lobby, or before, by contacting Nick Klingler.
If you have any questions, please contact Nick Klingler at nklingler@brebeuf.org or Debra Parker at debrabparker@gmail.com.

The next Diversity Dialogue will take place on October 16, during Period 3 (10:45-11:45), in the Efroymson Auditorium. Members of Young Republicans and Young Democrats will facilitate a discussion on “How is my party a party of social justice."
The recent political and social turmoil, including political polarization in the country, prompted this dialogue.
