Helping Italian dioceses address seismic risks

Given that Italy is prone to earthquakes, determining how to prioritize the protection of buildings can be complicated. Notre Dame researchers are completing a seismic risk assessment of 72 churches, some of which are thousands of years old, throughout the country. (More...)

Morris Inn honored as the Sustainability Champion

The Morris Inn was recently honored as the Sustainability Champion at the 2019 Historic Hotels of America Awards of Excellence reception at Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, North Carolina. The hotel is LEED Gold certified by the U.S. Green Building Council and includes many sustainable technologies. Senior Director Joe Kurth accepted the award on the hotel’s behalf. (More...)

How does Grind2Energy work? 

Maybe you've seen the large blue barrel-shaped vessels outside the dining halls and wondered, "What are those things?" Like the label says, "We're turning food scraps into energy." Grind2Energy prepares food waste to be converted to clean, renewable energy. Notre Dame is the second school in the nation to invest in the innovative food-waste recycling system. (More...)

Research Uncorked

Cara Ocobock, assistant professor of anthropology, is the next speaker in the Research Uncorked series held at Ironhand Vineyard’s wine bar, located along the St. Joseph River at 1025 Northside Blvd. in South Bend. Ocobock's research program integrates human biology and anthropology to study human performance in extreme conditions. The event takes place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10. (More...)

Mammograms: Dec. 4 & 12

Mammograms will be available on campus on two dates in December. This preventive offering is available annually at no cost to female Notre Dame faculty and staff enrolled in a University medical plan (Anthem), beginning at age 40.

According to the local United Way, four in 10 families in St. Joseph County struggle to meet basic needs. Notre Dame faculty and staff consistently step up to help reduce that number.
