A Message from Dr. Melissa Gormley, College of LAE Dean
The fall semester is moving quickly and midterms are rapidly approaching. On Oct. 14–15, we celebrated the university's sesquicentennial and enjoyed Homecoming activities, including recognition ceremonies, parade, 150th birthday party, football game, traditional lighting of the "M," and much more. On Oct. 24–25, the university is hosting a team of reviewers from the Higher Learning Commission, who will meet with faculty, staff, and students to discuss what it is like to work and attend school at UW-Platteville. We look forward to meeting with the reviewers to share the many good things that are happening within our college. We extend our sincere thanks to the HLC steering committee members for the countless hours they devoted to helping prepare for this visit. I am proud of the College of LAE’s faculty, staff and students, who continue to stand out in their teaching, scholarship and professional activities. We have worked hard to get to this point and I am proud of how far we have come.

FROM THE OFFICE OF DEVELOPMENT AND ALUMNI ENGAGEMENT
Legacy. At some point in our lives, this concept will take on special and unique meaning for us. For some, it will be when we are the beneficiary of someone’s forethought – someone who may no longer inhabit the world in body, but clearly in spirit and action for eternity. When someone leaves their legacy, the world can be impacted in sometimes bold, sometimes subtle ways – but usually forever.
Recently, I had the opportunity to think more about legacy as I observed a scholarship reception here at UW-Platteville. This reception was a celebration for those who, as part of their legacy, had endowed scholarships so that deserving students could lessen their financial burden of obtaining a university education here at UW-Platteville and a celebration for those students who were the beneficiaries of those legacies. I heard from the supporters, who told of being the recipient of such scholarships during their education and how important it was for them to also provide in kind. I heard from students who shared their gratitude and the impact their scholarships made. And I saw the impact of those who have long gone, but whose legacy continues.
Endowing a scholarship at UW-Platteville is but one of many ways supporters of the university and our students can advance and fulfill their legacy – impacting lives forever. If you would like to have a conversation about how your legacy can be advanced by an endowed gift to UW-Platteville College of LAE, please contact Development Officer Herb Reichelt at office phone: 608.342.3972, email: reichelth@uwplatt.edu, or U.S. Mail: 149 Gardner Hall, 1 University Plaza, Platteville, WI 53818.
