4-H Educator Update

Hello Dunn County 4-H'ers and Families!

It was wonderful to see many of you at the Dunn County Fair last week! I really enjoyed seeing the non-animal projects in the exhibit hall as well as watching the youth show their animals. Congratulations to everyone who put in hard work this year on their projects.

As we look at the August newsletter, we are getting ready for our next 4-H year. Each year 4-H members and volunteers must re-enroll in 4-H online. Re-enrollment will start on September 4th this year. I will send out reminders as we get closer to the re-enrollment date.

Another opportunity that I have highlighted in this newsletter is the 4-H Record Books. Completing a record book is a 4-H tradition. They are not required by the county, but we strongly encourage youth to complete them. They become a great resource for youth to look back on, and offer the opportunity to build lifelong skills. Announcements

Re-Enrollment Starts September 4th

Every year 4-H members and volunteers need to reenroll on 4-Honline. Due to updates to 4Honline, re-enrollment will begin on September 4, a few days later than normal. Volunteers will also need to take a short refresher training. Volunteers will not be certified until the training is complete, and therefor are not allow to work with youth.

Please complete your re-enrollment as soon as possible so you do not miss out on any of the great 4-H opportunities.

Returning Volunteer Re-Enrollment Policy (New)

The state has created a new re-enrollment policy for returning volunteers. All returning volunteers must re-enroll between September 4-October 1st. They must get their refresher trainings and background check done by December 1st.

IMPORTANT: A submitted enrollment does not mean that an individual is an approved volunteer. Adults who are not approved 4-H volunteers cannot be in custodial care of youth.

Record Books

4-H members are encouraged to complete a Record Book to showcase their project development throughout the year. Members may turn in their record book to their club leader at their August or September club meeting, or at a different time designated by your leader.

If a member intends to submit their records for County-wide award(s) consideration, please refer to the Record Book – Content List to ensure all section of the book are complete. If an alternative format is being used, it will not be eligible for a county award if it does not contain everything in the content list. Cloverbud Record Books are not eligible for county awards, but can be submitted for county judging to receive feedback.

County record book judging will take place at the end of September. The exact date will be selected at the August Leaders Council Meeting.

4-H Night at the Races!

Calling all race fans!!!

Join us for the third annual 4-H Night at the Races on Friday, August 15th! The Speedway is giving FREE admission to ALL Dunn County 4-H members! We will have a pre-party with food, lawn games, and activities for the kids. We will also our own section and go to the infield to say the 4-H pledge.
The pre-party will start at 5pm. If you are interested in attending, please let us know by filling out the form below.

Family Kickball Game

Little Elk Creek will be hosting an all county Kids Vs Parents kickball game on Sunday, August 10th at 3:00pm at the Little Elk Creek Ball Diamond. All ages and abilities are encouraged to participate.
To find the Little Elk Creek Field, take CTH J East of Menomonie about 4 miles. Watch for the sign and turn onto 410th Ave, field is on the left. You’ll be able to see the field from “CTH J”.

Arts Camp

Arts Camp is a creative and welcoming space to experiment with artistic sparks and self-expression. From Saturday, Oct. 4, through Sunday, Oct. 5, at Upham Woods, 4-H'ers in incoming grades 6-8 get to try out:

Painting
Theater
Dance
Music
Photography
You’ll also enjoy exciting camp activities like a Makerspace, campfire fun, color group competitions, and more!

Arts Camp Information

County-Wide Meetings and Events

County-Wide Project meetings are open to any 4-H member who meets the age criteria. If you are unsure about adding a project area, these meetings are an excellent way to explore and learn more. Reach out to the extension office or project leaders for more information.

Projects can be added any time before May 1st in 4honline.com.

There are no County Wide Projects meeting this month. Check back next month for more exciting opportunities.

Trip Funding

The Dunn County Leaders Council is excited to help fund your 4-H trip or activity! The Leaders Council is committed to funding 25% of all state and national trips and activities. The Leaders Council may fund at greater amounts depending on the number of participants and budgetary allowances.

Youth Support Fund

The Youth Support Fund is largely supported by donations from community members and businesses. Its purpose is to reduce the cost barrier associated with 4-H events and activities. If you are planning to participate in a 4-H event and feel like you could benefit from this fund, reach out to the extension office at zachary.rozmiarek@wisc.edu for more information.
