Coles College graduate wins Kennesaw State Distinguished Alumni Award
The Kennesaw State University Alumni Association recognized three outstanding alumni and an exceptional faculty member as a part of the annual alumni awards ceremony and reception held during Homecoming 2014. Dr. David Shock, associate professor of Political Science, received the Dr. Betty L. Siegel Faculty Member of the Year Award while Nancy Ballard (Nursing 1972), Dr. Megan Burton (M. Ed. – Early Childhood Education, 1997) and Brad Kehm (Marketing 1995) were named as Distinguished Alumni.
At the reception held at Embassy Suites – Kennesaw on Friday, October 10, Dr. Shock, who teaches courses on American, state and local government and public administration, shared his pride in Kennesaw State University and its commitment to its students. This commitment is highly valued by Kennesaw State alumni as Dr. Shock’s alumni nominators cited the professor as an “excellent instructor.”  One former student noted, “Dr. Shock spent extra time making sure I was getting proper transfer credit and showing me my path to graduation.”
A graduate of Kennesaw Junior College, Nancy Ballard is a WellStar Distinguished Faculty member in the WellStar College of Health and Human Services at Kennesaw State University and she travels throughout the country to review and appraise healthcare organizations seeking the prestigious Magnet Recognition Program® designation. Dr. Megan Burton graduated from the university’s Bagwell College of Education and is an associate professor in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching at Auburn University.  In addition to teaching courses for elementary teacher candidates and practicing elementary teachers, Dr. Burton concentrates on areas related to the improvement of mathematics achievement of elementary students.
Accepting his award, Brad Kehm, a graduate of the Michael J. Coles College of Business and Nike executive said, “This University made a huge impact on me as a student and I am committed to giving back to students because of the great experience I had here.” In addition to receiving the Distinguished Alumni Award, Mr. Kehm also was featured earlier in the week as a part of the Tetley Distinguished Leader Lecture Series, discussing “Leading the Nike Way.”   The Kennesaw State University Alumni Association was established in 1978, and the Association’s awards program was created in 1992.
