Trees are a vital part of our ecosystems. They provide shelter and food to animals, provide shade during the summer months, help to control erosion, and help to prevent flooding.
Each year, Soil & Water offers free trees to students and schools to be planted in our community. The free seedling tree program is a great opportunity to show students how important trees are to their health, the community, and their environment.
Each option includes the trees and all items needed to prep the trees to send with the students. This includes planting guides and teacher resource guides that meet state educational standards.
There are two options available for this program. Option 1 is that each student at a participating school receives a seedling tree to take to plant at home. This option is ideal for schools where students have a place at home to plant a tree.
If a large portion of the student body lives in a more urbanized area such as in an apartment or rental property, please consider option 2. For option 2, you can request a certain number of trees to be planted on your school grounds. This option is perfect for enhancing an outdoor classroom and allows all students to have ownership and responsibility for the trees planted at their school.
If you are interested in reserving free trees for your students or school, please fill out this Google Form.
The free trees will be available for pick up at our office on Friday, April 21st and during Backyard Conservation Day on Saturday, April 22nd! Join us for our Backyard Conservation Day! This is a day of hands-on activities at our land lab behind the Soil & Water office, where you can explore our wetland and woodlot, learn about rain gardens and rain barrels, purchase tree seedlings and conservation supplies, and more!
