“We are all part of a very diverse world – linguistically, culturally, and politically and we have to teach from that as the default position,” says Dr. Shondel Nero, member of the CAL Board of Directors and Professor of Language, New York University, Steinhardt Department of Teaching and Learning.
Since its inception, CAL has played a leading role in conducting research on language use, language learning, and effective teaching methods. CAL has also been instrumental in translating research into practical applications to help all language learners succeed. CAL’s Board of Trustees represents deep knowledge and research expertise in the significant issues of language and culture that unite and divide our world.
In celebration of CAL’s 60th anniversary, this video clip highlights the experience and expertise of the BOT members with an eye to seeking solutions for the future. CAL Board member and Professor and Director of the Assessment and Evaluation Group, Queen’s University, Dr. Liying Cheng, says it well, “…it’s only through an opening to a different way of thinking psychologically, culturally and emotionally that we can move forward.”
