🍎 Our 33rd annual Apple Festival 🍎

UBC Botanical Garden’s Apple Festival is back celebrating one of BC’s favorite fruits! This family-friendly day out at the garden includes the sale of over 33,000 lbs of apples – all listed by variety and grown right here in British Columbia. At the event, you’ll find a myriad of local food vendors, a Children’s Area, and our always popular Tasting Tent. New this year, Cooking Demonstrations! Apple Festival is a fantastic opportunity to explore the versatility of this delicious fruit. Read more about what to expect here.

Regular priced tickets at $11 are available from October 1st up to the event dates (October 19 & 20, 2024). Tickets purchased on-site on the Festival weekend will be at $12.

October in the Garden

Apples, to nobody’s surprise, are among the most popular of fruits. The genus to which apples belong—Malus—is well known in horticulture, both for the orchard apple (Malus domestica), of which there are a staggering seventy-five hundred known cultivars, and the crab apples (or crabs), whose foliage, flowers and fruits are often remarkably ornamental.

Seedling Sharing Event

Join us at Nitobe Memorial Garden to get hands-on experience with nature by nurturing your own tree seedling! This one-hour child-oriented event involves transplanting a tree seedling to create a mini garden to bring home. Guided by our curator-horticulturist, Ryo Sugiyama, children will gently transplant seedlings from the Garden to a plastic pot and create a mini garden with mosses and pebbles. Along the way, children and their guardians will learn about Nitobe Memorial Garden and its unique plant species.

UBC Botanical Garden and the Coastal Douglas Fir Conservation Partnership have collaborated on a project named 'Action for Adaptation' aiming to develop an online biodiversity atlas and policy tools for local governments and First Nations on BC's southwest coast.

From July to September 2024, 22 volunteers helped verify land cover, contributing 321 valuable data points. We’re grateful for their efforts in supporting climate adaptation and biodiversity conservation.
