Unconscious Bias Training Options

At Your Fingertips

In March of 2021, the Pediatric Perioperative Services and OSIC partnered with Dr. Arie Nettles and Dr. Amita Bey of the OHIE to launch the largest virtual unconscious bias training session to be held at VUMC to date. We were able to reach 260 faculty and staff with training that is vital to our working community. Since then, the Office of Inclusion and Health Equity has found multiple ways to meet our clinical and non-clinical colleagues where they are.
The Office of Inclusion and Health Equity (OIHE) provides faculty and staff across the Medical Center, including regional clinics and hospitals, with access to an expansive evidence-based training curriculum, designed to promote an environment of cultural sensitivity, awareness, and inclusion.

Courses are delivered in-person, online, or via self-directed virtual modules, and are open to all VUMC faculty, staff, and trainees. Continuing Education (CE) or Professional Development (PD) credits are available for specific courses.

FINANCE & GROWTH
Supply Cost Reduction Program

Supply Cost Reduction work will continue in FY2023.
EPSi Cost Accounting Team has developed a Supply Cost Tableau dashboard to measure and track performance to expense goal and change in year over year costs .
The Supply Cost workgroup team was created to oversee this workstream consisting of Finance, Perioperative Services, and Surgeon Leadership.
The team has identified 3 areas with opportunity for improvement:
1) Surgeon Preference Card Review
2) Reduce Supply Wastage
3) Utilization of CPT codes with greatest opportunity
If interested in going through a review of your Service’s Supply Cost data and performance on the dashboard, please contact Dr. John Pope or Jeremy Willis.

INNOVATION
What does the Chief Quality and Innovations Officer do?

As Chief Quality and Innovations Officer, Eunice Huang, MD, FACS, FAAP, has assembled a team of physicians, nurses and others from all pediatric surgical services to identify areas for improvement, generate solutions, then apply the resources needed to move solutions into practice.
