Dear Tulane Families,

The Office of Emergency Preparedness and Response welcomes you and your student to Tulane! During this exciting and busy time as you prepare to bring your student to Tulane, we urge you to ensure your student has the essentials: an extra phone charger, a reusable water bottle, an umbrella, a raincoat, and a personal evacuation plan.

If a hurricane or tropical storm threatens the New Orleans area, Tulane may issue an evacuation order and ask your student to implement their personal evacuation plan. If Tulane decides to shelter in place for a tropical storm or hurricane, your student can still implement their personal evacuation plan. What does a personal evacuation plan look like? Below are some examples:

-Travel by air to the city you are from or a city where you have friends or relatives your student could stay with for several days.

-Be picked up from campus by parents, friends, or relatives.

-Evacuate with friends or roommates or their families.

Tulane requires each student to develop an evacuation plan before arriving on campus. Students submitted their plans as part of the housing application process in May. Creating a backup plan is also a good idea so that, if the primary plan cannot be implemented, both you and your student know what the next option will be.

We ask that you and your student review their evacuation plan in their student portal in Gibson as soon as possible.

All students taking classes in person at Tulane University are required to complete the university’s immunization compliance process in accordance with Louisiana state law and university policy. Students must submit required immunization records and complete the tuberculosis (TB) screening process through the Campus Health Patient Portal. The immunization compliance deadline for Fall 2026 is July 15, 2026. Students who do not complete these requirements may receive a registration hold that can prevent course schedule changes until the issue is resolved.

This year, the Hullabaloo Hello team is partnering with the Center for Public Service (CPS) to include community service projects in the new students’ orientation program in August. Through this initiative, some of our new students will have the opportunity to give back to the city they’ll call home for the next four years by assembling hygiene, hurricane preparedness, and back-to-school supply kits for New Orleans community organizations that partner with CPS. The goal is to assemble 100 kits of each type, and parents and families can help! If you would like to contribute to this effort, purchase supply kit items from this Amazon Registry by July 15.
