Chutzpah and Healing

One of the side effects of being in rabbinical school for four years is that Yeshivish language makes its way into your everyday slang. I no longer ask if we’ve figured out the logistics of a trip, but if we can go over the tachlis details. I end sentences with phrases like “kah mashma lan” (Aramaic for, “It teaches us [something]”). The word “davka” is sprinkled a little too frequently into my sentences. And if there’s a missed opportunity or a disappointment around a particular event or holiday, my solution is often a “sheni” (literally: a second) of some sort. Birthday plans ruined by a rainstorm? Celebrate a Birthday Sheni. Got Covid and missed out on Purim? Have a Purim Sheni.

“One of the amazing things about working with Rabbi Ari Lev Fornari`14 is our shared orientation towards prayer as a spiritual practice. The consistent emphasis on tefillah in the Hebrew College curriculum has been a tremendous resource to us as pulpit rabbis. The time we spent in tefillah groups davening, experimenting with different modalities of prayer, and studying hasidic teachings about prayer prepared us well for this role. JTFGB Teens Raise $50K+

Hebrew College's Jewish Teen Foundation of Greater Boston (JTFGB) program teaches teens philanthropy skills, including serving on student boards to raise funds for nonprofits of their choosing. At their grant ceremony on June 1, the students awarded more than $50,000 to eight organizations that work in the areas of youth homelessness, foster care, youth mental health, and access to medical treatment.

Dignity Project Fellows

Now in its third year, the Hebrew College Miller Center's Dignity Project fellowship program is designed to train 15-18 outstanding high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors from Greater Boston to serve as interreligious and cross-cultural leaders, with the capacity to engage the diversity of our city (and broader society) with thoughtfulness, skill, and care. The program is now accepting applications for the 2022-2023 cohort.
