July 1, 2024
Â
We're back in both of your inboxes once moreâthis newsletter will be sent to your personal email address (the one you used on your application to AU) as well as your American University email address through the month of July. Once we get into August, we're officially in the same month that you'll be joining us on campus, so we'll send this newsletter only to your AU email address at that time.
Â
In this newsletter, you'll find a few reminders about upcoming deadlines, the Startup & Stand Out entrepreneurship competition, and more information about billing and your tuition statement and related fees.
Â
We also wanted to highlight a number of ways you'll be able to connect to your new community, including the upcoming Summer Send-Offs, virtual welcomes, and our Flight Ready! Canvas course and New Eagle Essential webinar series.

Check your AU email! Showing up on day one without looking at your email is like showing up to hang out with your friends without checking the group chat. It's a recipe for you being behind the rest of the group, so please check it frequently over the summer!

đ° Your first bill is right around the corner! This week, an email will be sent to you (and any established proxies), notifying you that your bill is ready to be viewed online.
The bill is due Thursday, August 1. Click on âAccount Activityâ to see an itemized list of all tuition, mandatory fees, and financial aid. A vast majority of universities, including American University, have a tuition and mandatory fee policy. With this type of policy, mandatory fees are assessed to all (or groups) of students in order to help defray associated costs, not based on actual usage of an individual student.
Because you're education is an investment of time, effort, and money, AU wants to make sure you're protected. We have recently partners with Grad Guard to provide tuition refund insurance should you need to withdraw for a covered reason at any time during the semester. Visit the tuition refund insurance website for more information on Grad Guard how how to apply purchase the tuition refund insurance.

Flight Ready! is AUâs online pre-orientation program that allows incoming students to get the support and the resources they need to navigate life as an AU Eagle. From June to July, Flight Ready! connects students to campus offices, the storied history of the University, their peers, and opportunities to get involved and make a difference.
If you haven't yet done so, you can access Canvas through the AU Library's website by logging in using your AU credentials. Please make sure to complete the Flight Ready! course by August.

𧳠Now that you know where you're going to live, then next question is, "When do I move in?" Our staff in Housing & Residence Life (HRL) are working hard to schedule all new students' move-in dates and will share that information with you in late July.
While you're waiting to figure out when you'll be able to move into your residence hall, don't wait to think about how you want to decorate your space. HRL makes it easy to plan what to bringâas well as what not to bring. If you want to review the packing list, visit the HRL website or download a PDF version of the list here; or, if you want to see the dimensions of your room and the furniture it comes with, visit this webpage and click on your residence hall.
