August 10TH, 2020

Dear UACS families,

First, we want to congratulate all the UACS sites for a successful final week of summer programming! Looking ahead, we are super excited to keep the momentum going and will be bringing you a full calendar of fall virtual programming. We also expect to implement in-person programming at select locations. Please stay tuned for updates about enrollment and offerings soon. Finally, we wanted to thank everyone who has read our newsletter this summer and reassure you that it's not going anywhere! We will be moving to bi-weekly publications for the rest of August, and picking up on weekly coverage of UACS news once fall programs begin.

Wishing you good health, and see you soon!

UACS Cyber Summer Camp Programming

Comegys Cyber Summer Camp

🌟Thanks for a Great Summer!🌟
Last week, the Comegys Cyber Summer Camp community gathered virtually for a talent show and Black History presentation. We also celebrated all the fun times we've had this summer, including when students made fishy creations (pictured top) and lava lamps (pictured bottom).

Increase your financial potential with Bridges to Wealth this fall!

This summer, Bridges to Wealth hosted a Summer Accelerator where students attended weekly financial literacy, college access, and entrepreneurship sessions. They also worked to develop business pitches for a Pitch Event last week with Philly company, FS Investments, who decided to fund all the pitches! This fall, B2W is offering virtual programs for students and adults.

City-Wide Updates

We hope that everyone has been able to stay safe and sound during Tropical Storm Isaias. The heavy rain and high winds from Isaias caused flooding and power outages across Philadelphia. For those who have been impacted by the storm, the City has compiled a list of resources and FAQs to help you navigate during this difficult time. You can find the latest information on the City’s response along with resources available to help as you recover from the severe storm by clicking below.

Penn Updates

This week, we want to welcome the Wharton School's new Dean, Erika James, to the Penn community. Dean Erika James consistently raises the bar in higher education as an award-winning educator, leading expert in her field, and respected mentor who has paved the way for women leaders. On July 1st, she kicked off a new chapter in her career as the first woman and first person of color to be appointed dean of the Wharton School in the institution’s 139-year history. School District of Philadelphia Updates

The start of August has always meant one thing to students: one more month before it's back to school. This fall "back to school" is going to be looking a bit different, and it's important that students and families stay updated with the latest SDP School Year plans. For starters, the first day of school will be September 2nd this year, a week later than usual. For more information, and to provide feedback to the District as it navigates uncharted territory in this pandemic, click below.

CEP: Ending Summer

with a Bang!

All three CEP groups came together with family and special guests last Friday to celebrate the end of our first ever virtual Career Exposure Program! Special guest, Philadelphia native Sarah-Ashley Andrews, motivated students with her unique career story and each CEP group shared exemplary student work. This was a summer for the history books and we want to thank the students, family and staff who made it a success!
