Updated List of April Events Mark Your Calendars!
April 13: (Extended) F Block screening of “Far From Home” with Academy Alum Galen Knowles (Director) and Brolin Mawejje, the subject of the film. Brolin, who is from Uganda, is engaged in intensive training and competition on a quest to become Africa’s first Olympic snowboarder – all while studying to become a doctor. Program is open to Academy families and begins at 1 PM. Seating is limited.
April 15: Grandparents and Family Friends Day (10:15 AM -3:15 PM). Invitations will be mailed before Spring Break. ALL students are invited to be our guests for lunch on this day.
April 16: Senior Emma Lonergan's senior project is an attempt to raise awareness about sex trafficking. She will host a screening of the film Half the Sky, preceded by a benefit dinner and followed by a discussion. Inspired by the book written by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, the film follows several women who have turned oppression into opportunity. The money raised by this event will provide direct support to young women in Cambodia, who are escaping the sex trafficking industry and hoping to start new lives. The meal will start at 5 PM and the movie at 6 PM. More information to follow after Spring Break.
April 30: Spring Contra Dance fund raiser with our own Sam Z-A and his band, and Steve Z-A teaching and calling. Special dance lesson for Academy families, 7:30 – 8:00 PM; general dancing 8:00 – 11:00 PM. This is a family friendly event. More details available on the school calendar and in future communications.
Network of Complementary Schools News
The Academy is a member of the Network of Complementary Schools, a program that provides opportunities for our students and staff to travel and experience the educational community of any of the Network's other member schools - from Oakland and Seattle to Puerto Rico, South Carolina, and many other locales. We currently have one student visiting Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia, PA.
Upcoming in May, we hope to host Jonathan, a senior at St. Benedict's Prep in Newark, NJ.  Jonathan shares that he is a member of the National Honor Society, participates as a leader in his school's Model UN delegation, loves to listen to music, write poetry, and program games and mobile applications. He hopes to learn some guitar-playing and Latin skills while at The Academy, and looks forward to sharing stories about his own background with his host family and community. If your family is interested in hosting Jonathan, please contact Nora Bates Zale.

Grove Ad Sales
Time to purchase a yearbook ad for your graduating senior - or your business!
Grove ad sales are now well underway - all students have been assigned ads and many have already sold theirs!
The sale of an ad generates a free yearbook for the selling student; students who do not sell an ad will be charged for the cost of their yearbook.
Students and classes who sell the most ads earn prizes in addition to free yearbooks.

For parents who have a senior graduating and would like to congratulate them (a long standing tradition) or who would like to have their business place an ad
, please review this link for details on sizes and specs, complete this ad contract, and send it along with the ad to grove@charlemont.org, or send in a hard copy. Ads, questions or concerns can be directed to Nora Bates Zale. The deadline for ad sales is April 22.
