Welcoming Week 2021

Welcoming Greater Charlottesville and JMRL are celebrating Welcoming America 2021 with a documentary series highlighting the refugee and immigrant experience. The next film is Human Flow, will be showing on October 19 at 6:00 p.m. After the film, there's a moderated discussion. Click here for more information on registration.

New Tutor Training Dates

In October, we will continue to offer new tutor training online via Zoom. Volunteers who complete the training virtually can choose to tutor students in-person, online, or using a combination of methods.

Our student waitlist is growing, and we'd love to train new volunteers to help meet the needs of the adults who come to us for assistance. Becoming a volunteer tutor will enable you to make a profound difference in a person's life.

In another year of the pandemic, students continued to meet their goals. These numbers are proof of their hard work and we are proud of their accomplishments.

21 students entered employment or got a better job
42 students improved their employability skills
52 students entered other education or training
8 students made an educational level gain
95 students met any work-related goal
7 registered to vote or voted for the first time
2 obtained a driver’s license
50 increased their involvement in their children’s education or literacy
