SGA Celebrates on the Alabama Golf Trail
The Senior Golfers journeyed back to the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Alabama, and found the golf courses to be exciting and the area charming.
The event opened with drinks and dinner on the Shoals Resort's patio, overlooking the magnificent TVA Wilson Dam. It was an honor to welcome newcomers Jan Muelhauser and  Sally Maloof, who traveled to Muscle Shoals from the Atlanta area. Everyone enjoyed the unique view and the delicious meal together.
The first day's play was on the Fighting Joe Course, named for the only military general to achieve the rank in both the Confederate and US Armies, which participants found to be beautiful and challenging. The final two days were played on The Schoolmaster, named for President Woodrow Wilson, who championed the building of the area dam which is also named for him. The Schoolmaster also was found to be a test of golf skills,
The event closed out with drinks and dinner in 360 Grille, the beautiful revolving restaurant overlooking the entire area of Muscle Shoals, Florence, and Tuscumbia. Winner for the men was SGA Louisianan Ken Rabalais, who had scores in the 80s all three days.  "I always enjoy the SGA events," said Gary.  "It was a special treat to be here with my little brother David and Lafayette friends Gene and Peggy Fortier. We are looking forward to welcoming some more of our friends from Lafayette, and are planning to have a real Cajun contingency!"
Lady winner was SGA newcomer Sally Maloof. "I have loving being here in Alabama," said Sally. "and I thank my friend Susan Jordan for sponsoring me into the Senior Golfers of America. I hope to be back to join all of you very soon!"
Close to pin winners were Sue Arnold, Gene Fortier, Linton Moyer, and Bill Suehs. Best Ball Winners were Sally Maloof, Jan Muelhauser, and Susan Jordan for the ladies, and Linton Moyer, John Oppenheim, Ken Rabalais, Bill Suehs for the men. Putting winners were Jan Muelhauser both with partners Gene Fortier and David Rabalais
SGA FoGs Carol Moyer, Peggy Fortier, and SGA Director Catherine Powell are intent on hearing all that Linda Hall has to say.
Fame Studios

The famous sign above the entryway into FAME’s studios reads: “Through these doors walk the finest Musicians, Songwriters, Artists, and Producers in the World”. This is as true today as it was in 1961. Since it first opened its doors, FAME has welcomed a literal who’s who of music royalty from Etta James, Wilson Pickett, and Aretha Franklin to Alicia Keys, Demi Lovato, and Jason Isbell. They all have come searching for the beautiful, soulful, sonic footprint that defines FAME Recording Studios.
SGA honorable FoGs (Friends of Golfers) Peggy Fortier, Carol Moyer and SGA Directors Catherine Powell and Cynthia Swanson toured the iconic Fame Studios, and were fortunate to have several interesting conversations with founder Rick Hall's wife Linda, enjoying the back stories of the creation and  operation of the business. All readers are encouraged to view the excellent documentary Muscle Shoals: Small Town, Big Sound, and also the current Aretha Franklin biopic Respect to learn more about this fascinating part of the history of American music.
Throughout the week, FoGs also visited Ivy Green, the original home of Helen Keller, the Frank Lloyd Wright Rosenbaum house, and Bell Mont Mansion, which is owned and has been expertly restored by the Alabama Historical Commission.
The Senior Golfers of America will re-visit the Alabama Golf Trail in April of 2023.  Plan to be there!
