Welcome to the February edition of the Warrior Family Association e-newsletter. I hope you are enjoying the winter season and that your student is off to a good start to the semester. It is hard to believe that midterms and spring break are right around the corner!
I came up with this idea for a parent newsletter about five years ago when I had two sons in college, and I had no idea what was happening on their campuses and what activities and opportunities were available to them. When I asked them how they were doing, they said "fine." When I asked what was going on, they would say "the usual." And that was the best I could get out of them. I thought it would be helpful for our Warrior parents if I shared some of what is going on at Indiana Tech in this e-newsletter.
I recently came across the February Edition of Indiana Tech's Office of Student Engagement "Toilet Paper" which is a newsletter that is made available in our restrooms across campus. (Get it? Toilet Paper!) I was amazed at how many activities and opportunities our Office of Student Engagement provides for our students to participate in. Here is a link to that newsletter, and I encourage you to check it out HERE. Next time you speak to your student, share some of the interesting and exciting things happening on campus!
This coming Tuesday, February 20, is Indiana Tech's Annual Day of Giving! This is a day that our Warrior Family rallies around our students to provide extraordinary opportunities for students that may not be possible without our donors' generosity. There are so many ways to support students at Indiana Tech, and I encourage you to click the Day of Giving logo below to see how you can take part and make a difference in the lives of our students. No donation is too small, and they all add up to make a huge impact!

Dr. Megan Patton - Director of Health Information Management, Health Information Technology and Medical Coding Certificate, Professor of Practice of Health Information
- I volunteer for the American Red Cross.
- I am the first one in my extended family to complete my doctorate.
- While completing my associate degree, I filled in for my instructor for a few classes while she was in treatment for breast cancer. This is when I realized my passion for education.

Dr. Ihab Mohammed – Assistant Professor of Computer Science
- I like road trips and am always ready to drive. I don't care where I'm going as long as I enjoy the views. I think of trips as adventures to discover new places.
- Watching movies is one of my best hobbies. I learn English from movies, not from books or studying. I watched at least one movie daily for more than ten years at some period in my life.
- I like nature more than cities and technology. I feel comfortable looking at green hills, blue sky, and bluish/greenish sea or ocean, especially near Honolulu.

Trent Grable- Director of International Student Academic Engagement and Professor of Practice
- I am a certified youth rugby coach (or was, might be expired since COVID slowed us down).
- I am an avid gamer - mostly with my kiddos, games of all kinds.
- I have guaranteed my daughter that if she can't find a job when she grows up we will raise Norwegian Forest Cats together.

Final thoughts from a fellow mom...
After the holidays, Karl and I spent some time at a conference for university presidents and their spouses/partners. I love this conference because there are sessions that are specifically for spouses. It was at our first time at this conference in 2018 that I got the idea for this newsletter.
We also had a few trips after the conference, where we were able to meet with alumni and donors around the country. We continue to be blessed with many benefactors who love and support Indiana Tech and who are grateful for the work our faculty and staff do every day to educate and support students.
Finally, we went to New York City earlier this month for my birthday weekend. It was the perfect weekend except for one thing. My son, Thomas, who lives in New York City and who I was excited to see on my birthday, unfortunately, tested positive for COVID the morning we were planning to visit him. It was disappointing that we went all that way, and we could not see him. However, both of our sons, Nicholas and Thomas, are planning to visit us in March for a long weekend. Let’s hope everyone stays healthy because Karl and I are really looking forward to seeing them! They will be here while several of our sports teams enter national tournaments and competitions. It should be an exciting time!
Thanks for your continued support of your student's journey at Indiana Tech! Please let me know if there is anything I can ever do for you.
