NEWS for AUGUST 2019

What am I Tasting?

We love wine—how it tastes, how it smells, how it enhances a meal—yet we sometimes struggle with the question, What am I tasting?

After a tasting weekend along the Wine Road, your work colleague asks you to describe your favorite wine. You know which wine was your favorite, but you can’t describe what you liked about it or how it tasted.

When you plan a special dinner and want the perfect wines to pair with the meal, do you feel like you aren’t sure what flavors are in the wines you selected or how they will match with the food?

You don’t have to describe wine to enjoy it, but there are times when it helps. Having the right tools can make a big difference. Yes, there are tools or resources that can help you describe what you’re tasting and smelling. And, these resources can also enhance your tasting experiences.

Need a little nudge to make your plans to visit? Here are some ideas to get you started:

Featured Wine Road Partner

When Mark & Terri Stark opened the original Willi’s Wine Bar in 2002, there was no plan that it would be the first of their six restaurants in Sonoma County, each with its own personality, menu, and vibe.

In Healdsburg, Bravas offers Spanish tapas with a wine country accent and Willi’s Seafood & Raw Bar serves up platters, ceviches and more with its inspired cocktails.  In Santa Rosa, Stark’s Steak & Seafood in Historic Railroad Square turns out “some of the best steaks north of the Golden Gate” (according to the San Francisco Chronicle), Monti’s is the place to go in Montgomery Village, Bird & The Bottle is a modern tavern offering a pleasing mash-up of Korean, Jewish and East Coast fare, and the new Willi’s Wine Bar has come back strong after the Tubbs fire in its new Town & Country Center location.
No matter which Stark restaurant you choose, you’ll experience Terri’s gracious hospitality and the innovative cuisine of chef Mark Stark along with their talented and dedicated staff.
What’s next for the Starks?   Grossman’s New York Style Delicatessen & Bakery in Railroad Square is in the works for late 2019.
