EXPLORE THE ACADEMIC RESOURCE CENTER
AUGUST 8, 2017
Hello ,
This week, we're introducing the Academic Resource Center!

This Week's News and Announcements

How Does the ARC Support Your Academics?

The Academic Resource Center (ARC) offers free one-on-one consultations in writing, time management and study strategies, and oral communication, as well as tutoring for introductory-level courses in sciences, math, economics, computer science, and foreign languages. We promote engaged, collaborative learning throughout your Tufts career with programs that build on your strengths while addressing your concerns and questions.

We offer different experiences depending on your year. Most first-year students find us through the following programs:

  • Taking an introductory science, math, economics, engineering, or language course? Check out our Subject Tutoring program for support outside the classroom. If you are taking Bio 13 or Chem 1, we recommend joining our  Study Groups.
  • Whether you are enrolled in first-year writing or another writing-intensive class, our Writing Support programs demystify college writing by helping you clarify your argument, organize your ideas, and better understand the conventions of different disciplines.
  • Adjusting to college life can bring new expectations and challenges. Discover personalized strategies for planning and organization, academic skills, and life balance by working with our Time Management & Study Strategies consultants!

Manage Stress

Starting college will bring about changes in lifestyle, academic and personal responsibilities, and new relationships. Not everyone will respond to stressors in the same way. It's important to recognize how stress affects you and develop strategies during high-stress times.

Type About It!
Responses to last week's video, Everything you think you know about addiction is wrong:
[Addiction] is something we are not necessarily completely familiar with . . . unless we have experienced it firsthand. . . . Experiencing is believing, and sometimes not believing. . . . I liken it to the Chinese Finger trap -- the harder we push (punishment and prohibition), the more we get trapped. We have to ease our fingers out, avoiding addiction through bonding and forming connections valuable to us and to those around us.

Group of Six

Next week, we're going to introduce the Group of Six. The "G6" are a resource for all students interested in thinking about social identities and how they impact our lives and the world we live in. The centers host many events throughout the year and provide students with opportunities for discussion and leadership.

Mixed Peer Leaders
Mixed Peer Leaders are a support system for incoming students who identify as multiracial, multi-ethnic persons of color (POC)*, or third culture (TCK)*. Peer leaders provide guidance and resources to navigate the academic, social, and emotional spheres of life at Tufts while also exploring the intersectional impacts of our identities.
