Rising blanket by blanket and carve by carve, “Blanket Stories: Traveler, Shield, Skywalker” is one of the newest artworks welcoming visitors to PDX. Marie Watt, a Portland-based artist and citizen of the Seneca Nation’s Turtle Clan, draws from Indigenous teachings and the Haudenosaunee tradition of gifting blankets to mark life’s milestones. In this piece, reclaimed blankets, carved cedar, and steel come together to tell a shared story about memory, care, community, and the journeys that connect us.
