FIGHTING BACK AGAINST PARKINSON’S DISEASE

Warm Hearth Village is proud to announce it will be the first senior living community in the state to offer a new fitness program designed specifically for individuals battling Parkinson’s Disease.  This innovative program, being offered in partnership with Rock Steady Boxing, is planned to officially launch at the Warm Hearth Village Fitness Center on September 10, 2018.

Thanks to Jim Craig and his wife, Lois who brought the idea to us and a small group of interested donors from throughout the community, the Warm Hearth Foundation was able to raise funds to cover the start-up costs and bring Rock Steady Boxing to the Village.  The new program will be led by Director of Fitness, Kenny Harrah and relies on exercises such as stretching, running, jumping rope, push-ups, balancing and lots of noncontact boxing.  Harrah successfully completed the Rock Steady Boxing Training Camp this year, certifying the fitness center and its staff to offer classes to residents and the community.

CARILION CLINIC CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Things are picking up with Clinic construction.  Last week, footings were poured and the block foundation wall was installed. This week, the plumbers and electrician have been installing piping and conduit that goes under the concrete floor slab.
In the next few weeks, the concrete slab and framing will begin.

WARM HEARTH FOUNDATION PARTNERS WITH BB&T

Each year, BB&T branches across the country to select projects within their local communities to provide support in the way of volunteer hours and resources. Formally known as their “Lighthouse Project”, the Christiansburg and Radford branches of BB&T have chosen to work with the Warm Hearth Foundation in 2018 and have donated 768 packages of toilet paper and 64 containers of All Mighty Packs laundry detergent to the Micah’s Personal Care Items program at Warm Hearth Village. BB&T employees also gave their time in both May and June with the Micah’s Soup for Seniors program, sorting and preparing shelf-stable food items for delivery to seniors in need. Approximately 100 seniors living at Warm Hearth Village receive a food distribution through the Micah’s Soup for Seniors program each month.

Many residents at Warm Hearth Village rely on the additional assistance they regularly receive through the Micah’s programs. For more information on the Micah’s programs or to learn how you can help, please call Karen Nelson at 540-443-3406 or email knelson@warmhearth.org.
