PDX People Honored at Customer Service Awards
When travelers are in need, PDX People are ready to step up and provide exceptional customer service. If that sounds like an introduction to a team of superheroes, well, PDX People are not far off! Whether they come to the rescue for missing family members or medical emergencies, being friendly, knowledgeable and respectful are their (not so) secret powers that help create a safe, welcoming airport.
To recognize actions that truly stand out as extraordinary and support our core values, we host the PDX People customer service awards each quarter. Read the stories of airport employees honored from July through September 2023 or watch the event recording.

Bypass Closure: The B/C bypass will close for safety on Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 1 to 3 a.m. while cranes are moving materials. Employees with red badges will have alternate route access through the security doors, but employees with grey badges will not. Spotters will be in place throughout the bypass to prevent entry.

Travelers Find Rideshares and Taxis at New PDX Transportation Plaza
Did you know that commercial vehicles make 1 million trips through the terminal every year? By diverting taxis and rideshares to our new Transportation Plaza at PDX – which opened on Tuesday – we’re taking another big step toward clearing up traffic congestion along the terminal. Plus, fewer cars idling on the road means we're lowering emissions, too! The new Transportation Plaza for taxi, Uber and Lyft passengers will help everyone get to their destination faster, including drivers coming to the airport to pick up family and friends. If you know someone arriving at PDX and taking a taxi or rideshare, tell them to head to the ground floor of the short-term parking garage. The plaza is easy to find – just take the tunnel under the roadway, avoiding all the rain and crosswalks.

Fast Company: Portland’s New Airport Terminal Looks Like It’s from the Future, But It’s Built Out of Wood
This national news coverage of the new main terminal focuses on the supply chain for the 9-acre roof over the new main terminal, demonstrating what's possible with wood and that mass timber doesn’t have to mean mass manufacturing. As the article calls out, every piece of wood was sourced from 13 small and tribal landowners in Washington and Oregon within 300 miles of the airport. The process was so exacting, the architects knew every board that frames the skylights came from the Yakama Nation, and all the double beams in the six massive oval skylights came from the Coquille Indian Tribe.
