Welcome to Miami!

Congratulations on joining the Miami University Class of 2024! We are thrilled to welcome you to the Miami Family! This is the first of many Hawk Herald newsletters you will receive during your first year at Miami. The Hawk Herald is designed specifically for first-year Miami students; each edition is packed with information, tips, and resources to support your transition to academic and student life at Miami.

Orientation Shifts to Remote Delivery

In an effort to provide all new Miami students with access and information in a safe and timely manner, we have made the decision to move summer 2020 orientation online. We know many of you are eager to visit campus to kick off your Miami experience, and we remain committed to providing an excellent college transition experience for you. Though your summer orientation will be delivered online, you can still expect to build important connections with student leaders, faculty and staff, and the Miami community. You'll also learn about your academic curriculum, learn about important resources and opportunities, set goals, and register for fall classes as part of your orientation experience. We're shifting orientation for your parents and family members online as well; use the orientation registration system to register your family members as guests, and we'll send them family orientation materials.
All new students must register for orientation and you can do this starting on Wednesday, April 1. Then, in the first part of May, you'll receive access to orientation materials via Canvas, Miami's online learning platform. You will be able to engage with most orientation materials when it is convenient for you, and you will also schedule several live meetings with your orientation leaders and academic advisors at times that work best for you. You can expect additional details and instructions in the months to come.
Orientation registration begins on Wednesday, April 1 at 1:00 pm (EST).

Set Up Duo Two-Factor Authentication

In order to register for orientation, students (not parents or family members) must enroll in Duo two-factor authentication. You will be prompted to enroll in DUO the first time you sign in to ANY Miami resource after confirming admission. The easiest method for using Duo is a smartphone app (but texts and phone calls are also permissible).
For more information about Duo, see our IT Knowledge Base or chat with a representative at  - MiamiOH.edu/itchat.
