Kenya Vasquez-Flores
Kenya Vasquez-Flores Knows Timing is Everything
Kenya Vasquez-Flores (she/her) with AGI/Frontier Airlines was nominated by Officer Skip Baker with the Port of Portland Police.
"I was dispatched to a call at the Frontier ticket counter, which was no longer staffed, as employees were assisting with boarding at the gate.
The passenger, who had arrived slightly late, was visibly frustrated and upset that he was unable to reach any airline representatives either in the terminal or by phone. Knowing that Frontier only had one flight scheduled that day and that no additional representatives would be available to assist with re-booking, I proceeded to the gate where the employees were working.
The gate area was busy with active boarding, but I explained the situation to the gate agents. AGI/Frontier Airlines employee Kenya Vasquez Flores immediately offered to return to the ticket counter to assist the passenger. After receiving approval from her supervisor, Kenya went to meet the customer.
I introduced Kenya to the passenger, and she was able to help ensure he could continue with his travel plans. The passenger was sincerely grateful for Kenya’s assistance.
Thanks to Kenya’s willingness to step in and help, the customer – despite his delayed arrival – was taken care of and left with a much-improved experience at PDX."

PDX Expands Accessibility with Aira ASL
PDX has partnered with Aira since 2018 to support travelers who are blind or low vision – and now we’re expanding that accessibility.
Starting Tuesday, July 1, in addition to the existing Aira service, PDX will also offer Aira ASL, a new tool that helps connect Deaf or hard of hearing individuals with a live American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter through their phone. Like the traditional Aira service, it’s completely free while on airport property, whether you’re a traveler or airport employee.
Here’s how it works: Download the Aira ASL app, tap "Call Interpreter," and you’ll instantly connect via video with a professional ASL interpreter to help facilitate real-time conversations. This could be helpful in situations where you need to help a traveler navigate TSA, answer questions about menu items, or get info at the rental car center.
Whether you’re assisting a traveler or just need support communicating across language barriers, Aira ASL is here to help make PDX more accessible and welcoming for all.
Juneteenth: Freedom Day graphic in red, black, green and yellow.
Honoring Juneteenth
On Juneteenth (celebrated on June 19) you might have seen red, black, green, and yellow Pan-African flags – each color rich with meaning: red for the struggle and sacrifice, black for strength and resilience, green for Africa’s fertile lands, and yellow for hope. These colors together symbolize unity and resistance.
You may also spot the Juneteenth flag, created by Ben Haith and designed by Lisa Jeanne Graf. Its white star represents Black freedom in all 50 states, and Texas, the Lone Star State. The surrounding nova signifies a new beginning for Black people everywhere, while the arc suggests a promising horizon. The flag is red, white and blue like the American flag, as a reminder that enslaved people and their descendants were and always have been American people.
