PDX People Honored at Customer Service Awards
At PDX, exceptional customer service is rooted in the knowledge and attentiveness of its employees. A keen awareness of their surroundings allows them to anticipate and meet the needs of travelers, even before they're expressed. This observant nature ensures PDX People quickly identify potential issues, provide timely assistance, and offer personalized recommendations. This proactive approach alleviates stress for travelers and fosters a welcoming atmosphere.
To recognize actions that truly stand out as extraordinary and support our core values, we host the PDX People customer service awards each quarter. Read the stories of airport employees honored from July through September 2024.

What's New with PDX Next: Gate C4 and D4 Updates and Bypass Door Work
Gates C4 and D4: In the last PDX Next forum, we learned that the Gate C4 hold room will be completed in late November, expanding the capacity of the airport and providing more boarding bridges. The Gate D4 hold room is also expected to be turned over at the end of November. Additionally, there were changes to the construction area around Gate D4 to facilitate an airplane fit test.
With all these changes, now's the perfect time for a reminder that pedestrians and vehicles should not walk or drive across the alley between Concourses C and D. Pedestrians and vehicles must use marked walkways and roadways only.
Bypass Doors: Today – Monday, Nov. 4 – card readers on the north and south bypass doors will be replaced. Foot traffic through one door at a time will be impacted and employee badges will be checked by security guards.

Increasing Accessibility and Celebrating White Cane Day at PDX
As PDX grows, so does our commitment to accessibility for everyone who travels through our airport. In honor of White Cane Safety Day, we welcomed our PDX Accessibility Committee and other community members to explore two powerful tools – GoodMaps and Aira – that make navigating our new main terminal easier for those who are blind or have low vision. The latest GoodMaps updates reflect our expanded terminal layout, with features like step-free routes and multilingual support to make the experience smooth for all.

Take an Art Break at PDX's Main Terminal
Wendy Given, who manages the PDX art program, commissioned seven new art moments in the main terminal, with more to come in 2026. The goal of filling the airport with great art? Sparking delight. Telling new stories about the Pacific Northwest. Inspiring you to take a breath and relax. Art likes to tell us something, whether we’re stopping to study it or zooming past. The next time you take an art break in the terminal, we've got a few insights about the new works to get you thinking.
P.S. Want to enjoy art at the airport without the walk? Click on the "Art" tab on our interactive map, which will show you more than 20 artworks, many of which are located pre-security.

PDX Receives $3 Million in Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Funding
Oregon’s U.S. Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden recently announced that $3,000,000 in Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funds are headed to PDX to support a portion of the terminal curtain wall reconstruction. This includes replacement of approximately 14 revolving doors to increase energy efficiency and safety. The funding comes from the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Terminal Program. As Port of Portland Executive Director Curtis Robinhold shared, "This grant will help us renovate the 30-year-old entrance to PDX – which wasn’t touched during construction of the new main terminal – and modernize a key piece of our airport infrastructure."

Honoring Native American Heritage Month in November
What started at the turn of the century as an effort to gain a day of recognition for the significant contributions the first Americans made to the establishment and growth of the United States is now a full month designated for that purpose. In 1990, President George H. W. Bush approved a joint resolution designating November 1990 "National American Indian Heritage Month." Similar proclamations with variations of that name – including "Native American Heritage Month" and "National American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month" – have been issued each year since 1994.
This month, we encourage you to get to know the four Northwest tribes who helped build the new main terminal, check out the Land of the Ports display in the PDX south tunnel, support Native-owned neighborhood businesses and learn how to talk about Native peoples respectfully.
