Fall 2020...like no other
A lot of uncertainty still exists as school administrators, teachers, parents, and students continue to figure out what school will look like. COVID-19 continues to impact us in various aspects of our lives. This edition includes some recycling resources as well as links to services and resources that residents may need while trying to manage our COVID-19 reality as a new season rolls around.
Our staff continues to work remotely; however, we have been doing contactless deliveries and technical assistance. To request free waste reduction and recycling resources or assistance, contact us today or use our online order form
Do you manage communities outside of Clackamas County? See our list of regional multifamily contacts throughout the tri-county area who are ready to help with your waste prevention, reuse, and recycling efforts.
Recycle Right in Clackamas (and Multnomah and Washington) County
Recycle Right in Clackamas County!
Our AmeriCorps Member, Dakota, was unable to attend pool parties and summer events to help educate multifamily residents about proper recycling do's and don'ts, so instead, he made a video! Watch this brief (2.5 min) video to learn how to recycle right in Clackamas, Multnomah, and Washington Counties - yep, we have the same recycling rules throughout the tri-county region!
After watching the video, you can test your knowledge by playing the Recycle or Not game (also available in Spanish at ReciclarONo.org).

Don't Despair, REPAIR: Reuse is Better than Recycling
Reducing our waste (not buying in excess) and reusing (think repair instead of buying new) are better for the environment and our bank accounts! The internet provides us with countless guides and videos to walk us through different repairs - from sewing a button back on our favorite shirt to troubleshooting power tool problems to fixing our broken phones.
Try these resources for step-by-step repair guides and tutorials, reuse ideas, and lending options:
  • ifixit.com - find tutorials and resources to fix broken items
  • ResourcefulPDX.com - ideas for a resourceful lifestyle
  • Buy Nothing - groups provide a network for neighbors to swap, lend, and acquire items for free and keep items out of the landfill
  • Rooster - similar to Buy Nothing, a community to borrow, lend, and connect with neighbors
Have other ideas? Please share your resources so we can include them in future editions!
Resources for Residents Affected by COVID-19
Clackamas County continues to update its website with up-to-date resources related to the coronavirus pandemic: www.clackamas.us/coronavirus.
From links to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Oregon Health Authority websites to resources for rental and food assistance, residents can find online, phone, and in-person supports for their unique needs, as well as options to donate or volunteer.

COVID-19 Impacts to Multifamily Garbage and Recycling
COVID-19 continues to impact our garbage and recycling system. Some garbage and recycling companies are still unable to pick up bulky items in the traditional sense in an effort to keep their drivers safe. However, other options are available. Ask your garbage collector or contact us for assistance.
Reminders for residents remain the same:
  • Keep recycling...correctly. Recyclers need material, especially cardboard boxes.
  • Flatten cardboard before recycling.
  • Bag all trash securely to ensure gloves, masks, and wipes stay contained.
  • Remember to wash hands (or use hand sanitizer) after touching the trash/recycle bin, just as with any other public surface.
