Rotary Reflections
by Tim Dowd
One could say that the Rotary motto, Service Above Self, reflects a principle long expressed in faith traditions. In Christianity, it echoes the admonition: “To whom much is given, much will be required.” In Jewish tradition, the concept of Tzedakah embodies a similar idea, the moral and religious obligation for individuals, whether wealthy or of modest means, to give back to society.
Your Rotary Club 29 Foundation takes this responsibility, and the Rotary motto, seriously. Income from the Foundation’s endowment, along with donations and other contributions, is directed toward those in greatest need. In many cases, the work supported by the Foundation can truly be described as doing God’s work.
The Rotary Club 29 Foundation currently holds assets approaching six million dollars. These funds are classified by the Foundation Board into several categories: Short-Term Unrestricted Funds, Short-Term Restricted Funds, Long-Term Restricted Funds, and Endowment Funds. All assets are invested in accordance with the Foundation’s established Investment Policy. READ MORE

| March Rotary Magazine - for Rotarian Subscribers
At the entrance to most any small town in America, travelers are greeted by a sign for the local Rotary club, a time-honored symbol of civic engagement and of vibrant communities of neighbors helping neighbors. A quarter of the way into the 21st century, is it still so? In this issue of Rotary magazine, we go on a rapid-fire road trip to find out. Click here to read the March 2026 Rotary Magazine
In another of this month's features, we check in on a Rotary program to reduce Nigeria's maternal death rate, one of the world's highest. This progress report pairs data with photography and a personal reflection — to reveal the success and the stories behind the initiative.
Speaking of the powerful and the personal, this month's essay writer endured years of domestic abuse and offers a rare window on a tragically common experience. Hers is a story of hope, though, as she describes her work counseling other survivors and how Rotary was her "first act of rebellion."
Finally, can AI be a tool for peace? Meet a Rotary Peace Fellow who thinks so.
