The Utah Department of Cultural & Community Engagement and its divisions are proud to support programs that strengthen communities, empower youth, and preserve Utah’s rich heritage. America’s Potluck: Sharing Meals, Sparking Dialogue, Strengthening Communities |
Governor Spencer Cox addressed America’s Potluck in a video announcement to all governors, inviting participation in this national initiative led by America250 Utah. America’s Potluck encourages neighbors to come together to share a meal, spark dialogue, and honor the spirit of unity. On Sunday, July 5, 2026, all 50 states and several U.S. territories will host gatherings, turning each meal into an act of unity that strengthens community connections while celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Joining Together on the Creative Leadership Journey
|
Some 140 arts and museums leaders from around the state joined the Executive Director Forum on March 27 to learn, network, and collaborate. These leaders are from Utah’s arts and cultural sector, which drives significant economic development. The sector represents $9.6 billion of the state’s economy, 3.41 percent of the state’s gross domestic product, and employs nearly 70,000 people across the state. “This leadership gig is a tough job to do alone. And you are not alone,” said Victoria Bourns, Utah Division of Arts & Museums director, in praising the group of creative, tenacious leaders.

AmeriCorps Members Gather to Strengthen Service Skills Across Utah
|
On March 18, more than 200 Americorps members — serving Utah communities through education, conservation, and civic programs — gathered at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center. The event featured sessions on career growth, financial wellness, and stress management, helping members build skills and resilience they need to serve effectively as part of UserveUtah, making a lasting impact across the state.

In a special message, Lieutenant Governor Deidre Henderson thanked Utah AmeriCorps members for their dedication and service. She highlighted their work supporting students, assisting families, protecting public lands, and responding to crises — often behind the scenes. Recognizing their patience, resilience, and courage, she commended members for choosing purpose over comfort, building a stronger, more resilient Utah for generations to come.

Youth Make a Difference While Serving Statewide |
Since July 2024, more than 20,000 Utah high school students have participated in the Volunteer for Good program in 23 schools, completing 401,143 hours of service, providing an economic impact of nearly $14 million. This service boosts academic success, builds social skills, fosters empathy, and improves the mental health of participating students.
In the Sevier School District, one school sent seniors to an elementary school to read on Dr. Seuss’ birthday. One senior thanked the volunteer coordinator for the experience and said: “That was the best day ever!”

The 2026 Preservation Engaged Conference on June 12 will bring together preservation professionals and community stakeholders across three tracks to explore adaptive reuse, heritage tourism, historic districts, and downtown revitalization.

Introducing Utah’s New Multicultural Affairs Deputy Director

Utah’s Multicultural Affairs welcomes new Deputy Director Eddy Thompson. He’s a Utah native committed to service and community building. With years of experience working with Multicultural Affairs and being a part of the Martin Luther King Jr.commission, he has focused on creating opportunities for youth through scholarships, leadership summits, and mentorship programs. He strengthens communities and supports the next generation of leaders through partnerships with organizations such as the Utah Black Chamber.

America250 Coca-Cola bottles begin production in Utah |
Swire Coca-Cola USA has begun producing commemorative bottles in Utah to celebrate the United States' upcoming 250th anniversary. State and community leaders, including Utah Lieutenant Governor Deidre Henderson, toured the company’s West Valley City production facility Tuesday to watch the first America250 bottles come off the manufacturing line.

Fairview library launches 24/7 book lockers in Spring City and Indianola |
Residents in Spring City and Indianola now have around-the-clock access to library materials through new self-service lockers installed by the Fairview City Library. Patrons can pick up reserved books, DVDs and other materials at any time of day. The lockers also accept returns.
