Happy May to our Silver Spring Rockers! Another month has zipped by and now we're gearing up for summer. We hope you're rested from the break and ready to rock. Spring performances and Summer Camps are around the corner so be sure to mark your calendars for what will most definitely be the BEST SUMMER EVER!

COMING SOON...

This summer our Performance Program will be a super fun BATTLE OF THE BANDS.  What's that you say? Students will work as a band to build a compelling set list and stage show production that will ROCK.  Then at show time, they will compete on a school and then area level for Best Song of the Summer.  So if you've always wanted to have more say in the show, this is your summer to do it.  Sign ups are coming soon.  Stay tuned for details!

Make Music Day 2019
School of Rock Silver Spring is proud to participate for the second year in Make Music Day June 21st, 2019.
Last year we rocked out to David Bowie's Rebel, Rebel outside of the school and it was a blast. This year you are invited again to Make Music Day. This is a free celebration of music around the world on June 21st. Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, it is now held on the same day in more than 800 cities in 120 countries.

This year, Silver Spring SOR will join the celebration with a live performance of We Are The Champions by Queen. It will be a Facebook Live event and in the spirit of the day, we will set up on the sidewalk in front of the school at 12pm and jam a bit before the live event at 1:30PM.  All our students who would like to be a part of this will be asked to learn a part on We Are The Champions prior to the event so they can participate.

When:  Thursday, June 21st 2019
Time:  12-2PM
We will start the festivities at 12PM and the live broadcast will be at 1:30PM.
It's gonna be a party to remember! We're having a pizza party with cold refreshments. This isn't just for students. Parents please come join the fun and MAKE MUSIC WITH US! We can't wait to show the world how School of Rock makes music!

We are currently enrolling for our Adult Rock 101

Join us Thursdays from 7:30pm - 9pm a weekly band rehearsal. This group is for those who are eager and ready to learn the in's and out's of what it takes to be a functional, working band. 
AND...
For those who already have the chops down to play on stage but just want a weekly jam session? You're welcome to join the band too! This is a time to hone in on your band skills. There is no performance associated with this weekly rehearsal.

Summer's Coming!

Did you know School of Rock is open ALL SUMMER LONG???  Yes, we have all our regular lessons and programs PLUS some super fun camps that up the ROCK! Summer is the perfect time to spend more time on your musical growth.
But, maybe you doing some vacationing and don't want pay for lessons you can't attend.  No worries!  The Summer Make Up Lesson Program to the rescue!  We offer GUARANTEED MAKE UP LESSONS in the summer and work around your schedule.  So, don't lose your lesson slot or risk not getting your favorite teacher in the fall, or be bored when you are in-between summer activities or get rusty on your instrument this summer - it's easy to stay plugged in and keep the music rolling all summer long!

Student Spotlight - Meet James! 


What’s your favorite thing to do at SOR? I like to play music with other kids who know how to play music. It isn't just a bunch of kids just playing stuff, it's the kids playing real music together. I really like the system.

What do you like best about SOR? I like the teachers. They are really good with the kids. And they are really nice and have lots of patience. 
What advice would you give to a new student? Well, I'd say that if you really like put your mind to it, teachers really help, but you have to put in the effort to have the teachers help you. 
WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 5 FAVORITE BANDS? Queen, AC/DC, Def Leoppard, Talking Heads, and the Beatles.
