Colleagues in the Division of Student Affairs,
Congratulations to the men’s basketball team on advancing to the NCAA Division III Sweet 16! Many of our student affairs team members attended the games in the Field House on Friday and Saturday, and I know our student-athletes appreciated the support as they won two close games in the final minutes of overtime. Follow washubears.com this week to learn more about next weekend’s contest.
The NASPA – Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education – Annual Conference is next week. On Wednesday, we will share NASPA sessions and events featuring WashU colleagues on our Instagram account (@washustudentaffairs). Be sure to follow along and support our team members.
If you have not done so already, today is the last day to sign-up to become a certified strengths coach! More information below.
I will see you all on Wednesday, March 20, at 8:30 a.m. in Risa Commons for our March Division of Student Affairs Monthly Meeting. Until then, enjoy the changing weather, engaging with our students and attending some of our spring events.
Go Bears!

The Division of Student Affairs is offering the opportunity to become certified strengths coaches. Training will be March 18-22, 2024 on the Danforth Campus and includes lunch on all five days.
Being strengths certified means you will be able to use these skills to assist in facilitating strengths workshops within the Division - you are also free to utilize the knowledge beyond WashU if you would like. You are required to commit to 8-10 workshops (as requested) during the academic year for various departments and student clubs and organizations. Materials will be supplied for these sessions.
If you are selected to join this year’s training, you will receive a follow-up communication with necessary information. Please note, you must have your supervisor’s approval before officially submitting the Strengths Coach Interest Form.
To be included in the training, please complete the form by 5 p.m. today. Questions can be directed to Stan Sweeney.

Summer communications to incoming students and families |
Does your office send communications during the summer months to incoming students and their families? If so, Student Transitions & Family Programs (STFP) would like to know about it. Most of the communications the Class of 2028 and their families receive come from STFP or Admissions. STFP sends monthly e-newsletters, and mails publications and Before You Arrive checklists to each incoming student.
If your department sends communications to a specific population of students within the incoming class (ex: students in a scholar program) over the summer, please complete this form. Having the information pertaining to ALL communications sent to specific incoming student populations will help the STFP team provide better services to students and their families who contact the STFP office with questions.
Thanks for your help in making the Class of 2028’s transition to WashU a success!

STUDENT AFFAIRS SPOTLIGHT |

| Da’juantay Wynter was 10 years old when he told others to start calling him DJ.
“I thought my given name was too ghetto, and that if I went by Da’juantay my whole life, I wouldn’t get anywhere,” he said.
That changed his senior year of high school though, after he got accepted to WashU.
“I created this dream of going to college as Da’juantay; it was only right that I live that dream out as Da’juantay, not DJ.,” he said. “So, I reclaimed my name and started being myself unapologetically regardless of the space I am in.”
