Katie and Oliver chose 2906 S Charlestowon. It had the space they wanted, a location near friends, Columbia City, and Light Rail, and a perfect layout for working from home and Chilean visitors staying for more than a week. Also, it was in good condition which would allow them to still have time in their lives for outdoors adventuring.
3416 19th Ave S was definitely a serious contender, but it was one of the first houses we looked at and it and it was abuzz with activity. We knew it would get bid up and indeed it did. If they had a few more weeks of house hunting under their belts when it popped onto the market, they might have put an offer in, but I still don't think they would have bought it. While listed at $900,000, it actually sold for $972,000 and I found out that the winning offer actually would have gone up to $1.2M if they had needed too. This means, if Oliver and Katie had wanted it, and the other buyer was around, they'd have had to exceed $1.2M to buy it. Eesh.
Seventeen people entered the contest and of those, ten got the answer right. The other seven guessed the 19th Ave S house and no one guessed the Alaska Ave S house. A few eagle-eyed people noticed that I'd given participants a big clue. Look at the photo of Katie and Oliver. You'll see a yellow door and blue siding behind them, just like in the photos of the Charlestown house. This was a mistake that I will not repeat. It was interesting that this clue jumped out at some people and for others it didn't register.
