Thanks to funding from the SCPA Foundation, a self-paced online journalism and ad sales training course is currently available to all SCPA members at no charge. Members who complete the entire course will receive a Certificate of Completion. If you have a staffer who could benefit from this training, please sign up!

Meet SCPA's 2025-2026 interns, McKenzie and Maya, who are charged with helping lead our Collegiate Division, also serve as this year's co-editors of the lede! If you attended last year's Collegiate Meeting & Awards, you probably met McKenzie and Maya!
USC student McKenzie Bargeron is a sophomore broadcast journalism major and sports media minor from Simpsonville.
While in high school she participated in Beta Club and National Honor Society, and graduated Cum Laude. During her time at USC, she has enjoyed meeting new people and learning how to grow as a writer in the journalism field.
She aspires one day to work as a reporter or news anchor on a news broadcast. 
In her free time, she enjoys reading, going to the movies and hanging out with friends.

A Landrum native, Maya Ambuehl is a first-generation sophomore sports media major with a double minor in Sports & Entertainment Management and Entrepreneurship at USC.
Aspiring to have a job in the sports industry, she is a part of Upstate Prep Cast as a broadcaster and is a sports writer for The Daily Gamecock.
In her free time, Maya enjoys spending time with family and friends, watching all things sports and reading.

Members of Kentucky Press Association did an excellent job judging SCPA's news and advertising contests earlier this year. Now it's our turn to return the favor!
SCPA needs roughly 60 members to help judge KPA’s News and Advertising Contest in October. Judging is done online and is extremely user-friendly.
All current and retired SCPA members, communications/journalism instructors and collegiate advisers are eligible to help judge. Here's what KPA needs:
    - 40 news judges
    - 12 advertising judges
    - 6 collegiate judges (for KPA's intercollegiate press association group that competes as hard as their football/basketball teams)

The Associated Collegiate Press announced finalists of the ACP Pacemaker awards amongst other categories recently. The awards will be presented at the National College Media Convention this fall.

The awards span across a wide variety of categories and are presented each year at the National College Media Convention. This award marks a students quality and is used as a launchpad to a strong career.

USC Carolina News & Reporter is utilizing Instagram reels to promote their show!

This past month The Post and Courier has onboarded 33 fully funded, paid interns who are working in P&C offices across the state. The Post and Courier joined forces with six institutions of higher education building a pipeline of future journalists, marketing professionals and advertising experts through our University Partnerships program.

These positions are funded by generous foundations and individuals committed to sustaining a free press in South Carolina. Many of the students are working alongside our staff in campus-based offices, and most are receiving college credit in addition to being paid.
