Dear Members of the University Community,
We write to follow up on our communication yesterday regarding the review of road conditions and plans for instruction and work on Jan. 16-17 by the Emergency Management Executive Team (EMET).
After a review of road conditions and weather forecasts in the area, we have determined that we will hold courses online today and tomorrow (Jan. 16 and 17).
Essential services will continue to operate, and some non-essential services will operate on a limited basis. Those essential services include the Sewanee Police Department, the Sewanee Volunteer Fire Department, Sewanee Dining, and portions of Facilities Management. The availability of non-essential services will be announced separately by those units.
The work situation for staff is as follows:
- We are asking staff in essential services (Sewanee Dining, the Police Department, the Fire Department, and sections of Facilities Management) to report to work as scheduled.
- For other employees, we ask that they speak with their supervisor to make plans to work remotely today and tomorrow. We ask that they complete what tasks that they can while working remotely.
- Non-exempt employees who cannot work remotely and who are advised not to report to campus in person today and tomorrow (Jan. 16 and 17) due to road conditions will be compensated in accordance with their scheduled hours.
We remain hopeful that we can clear roads and sidewalks by tomorrow, but that process will likely not be complete until the end of the day. We expect that we will be back to full operation on Thursday. Again, we greatly appreciate our employees’ commitment to operate what services we can offer under these difficult circumstances. In particular, those staff who are providing essential services to our campus are performing extraordinarily under very challenging circumstances. We are deeply indebted to them.
Please take care and stay safe.
Sincerely,
Scott Wilson
Acting Provost
