Today I am in Washington D.C., attending a meeting of Excelencia in Education, an organization dedicated to accelerating Latino student success in higher education, which we will be officially joining in the spring. While D.C. is enjoying beautiful fall weather, hurricane Ian continues to inflict enormous devastation in Florida and along the southeastern coast. SU students affected by this terrible storm needing assistance are welcome to apply for emergency funds donated by the Southwestern community of alumni, parents, faculty, staff and trustees.
As the Texas heat cools down, I hope everyone enjoyed yesterday’s Captain’s Sweet Surprise—I can't wait to see what the Captain and his committee have next week! This will be a busy weekend with rock climbing outings, the Sarofim School of Fine Arts’ student showcase on Friday at 3 p.m., and the utterly fun and charming How I Became a Pirate, still playing.
Our own Pirates, namely the women’s volleyball team, will play a doubleheader against Austin College and Centenary on Saturday beginning at 1:15 p.m. We had a great cheering section for their last match and they are currently riding a three-game winning streak.
Go Pirates!
