Dear Colleagues and Friends,
The year 2023 marks the beginning of Notre Dame Engineering’s sesquicentennial. In 1873, Notre Dame offered its first formal course in engineering. 150 years later, following extraordinary advances in five departments and programs, Engineering is thriving at Notre Dame.
More than 200 faculty researchers, teachers, and practitioners, together with staff, are pursuing impact and innovation in three primary areas:
- Human Health and Wellbeing;
- Sustainability and Resilience of our Built and Natural Environment; and
- Fair and Equitable Systems and Technologies.
All of us are committed to the flourishing of our 1,430 undergraduate majors and more than 650 graduate students and post-doctoral scholars.
Now in my third year as Dean, I could not be prouder of our Notre Dame Engineering community. We hope you enjoy some of our top stories from 2022, and that you will join us in anticipating a banner year to come in engineering a better world for all.
Wishing everyone a Happy New Year!
Best wishes,
