PDX Communications Center
Be Knowledgeable: Calling the Comm Center in an Emergency
Part of being knowledgeable at PDX means knowing exactly how to call for help and what happens next. Feeling confident in the steps to take can make all the difference for safety and great customer service.
Who do I call?
  • Emergencies: Call the Communications Center at 503.460.4000 (on the back of your PDX badge) or dial 9 on a white courtesy phone.
  • Non-emergencies: Call the Communications Center non-emergency line at 503.460.4747.
  • Incidents that already happened (like theft or vandalism): Fill out an online police report.
Not sure which number to call? Just call – the Communications Center team is always ready to help and will connect you with the right resources.
What happens when I call?
The dispatcher will ask three quick questions:
  1. What is the location of the emergency?
  2. What’s your call-back number?
  3. Tell me exactly what happened.
As a PDX employee, you’re empowered to call 503.460.4000 anytime help is needed. Thanks for being part of what keeps PDX safe, secure, and welcoming for everyone. Read the full article.
Cellphone with sample text alert message from Multnomah County
Multnomah County Test Will Light Up Cell Phones on Thursday, Aug. 14
In preparation for an actual emergency, Multnomah County will issue a rare, but important, test of its Wireless Emergency Alert system this Thursday, Aug. 14, at 2 p.m.
An alert will be sent to the cell phones of up to 1 million residents and visitors. Recipients will hear a high-pitched tone, their phone will vibrate twice, accompanied by a text message in English and Spanish. No action is required of people who receive this alert; the test is only to help emergency planners confirm the system will work during an actual emergency and to identify what can be improved. Everyone will receive a link to a survey if they care to weigh in further.

Rendering of the new NE 42nd Ave. bridge lanes
NE 42nd Avenue Bridge Replacement Underway
Construction is in progress for a new earthquake-ready NE 42nd Avenue Bridge over NE Lombard Street. The new bridge will provide better access for freight and will connect pedestrians and people biking to the NE Holman Neighborhood Greenway and the NE 47th Avenue multi-use path. This construction requires a bridge closure for two years; the nearest alternative routes for general vehicle traffic are NE 33rd Avenue, NE 60th Avenue, and Cully Blvd. If you use this route, expect delays, travel cautiously, and observe all closures and directions by flaggers. Learn more and sign up to receive updates by email or text message at the project website.
