Nathan Basich Brings Stellar Customer Service from Day One |
|
|
Nathan Basich with Tender Loving Empire was nominated by a PDX employee.
"On Nathan's very first day of training, he helped two traveling missionaries whose flight was canceled. They were left stranded without a phone to call for help.
Without hesitation, Nathan pulled out his phone and offered it to the two guests so they could call to get on a new flight. Nathan made his phone available to them while they figured it out, even though it took over an hour.
Nathan went above and beyond on his very first day to ensure these passengers were taken care of in the way they needed. Nathan

Be Knowledgeable: Calling the Comm Center in an Emergency |
|
|
Part of being knowledgeable at PDX means staying informed about how to call for emergency assistance and what happens during that process.
Who do I call for help?
In emergencies, call the PDX Communications Center at 503.460.4000. This number is on the back of your PDX badge. You can also dial 9 on a white courtesy phone, located throughout PDX.
|
|
| |
|
For incidents that are not currently in progress – such as theft or vandalism – you can fill out a police report online.
If it’s not an emergency or if you’re not sure if you should fill out the online form, you can call the non-emergency Comm Center line at 503.460.4747.
The Comm Center folks are always ready to help, so don’t hesitate to call! They can triage your report and send appropriate resources if needed.
What happens when I call?
When you call the Comm Center to report an emergency, they will ask you some questions to help the dispatcher quickly assess your call.
You will always be asked:
|
- What is the location of the emergency?
- What is a number that I can call you back?
- Tell me exactly what happened.
|
If you witness an incident, call the Comm Center directly. This gives dispatchers accurate, real-time information so they can send help quickly. Calling a colleague first can delay the response.
For medical emergencies, call from a cell phone when possible and stay with the patient. Staying on scene helps dispatchers get important information and direct responders to the patient’s exact location.
As a frontline employee, you’re empowered to call the PDX Communications Center at 503.460.4000 when help is needed. Thanks for playing a key role in keeping PDX a safe and secure place to work and visit.

Portland Airport Fire and Rescue (PAF&R) crews have been busy this summer, providing critical support on multiple wildland fires across Oregon. From the Grasshopper Fire in The Dalles to the East Evans Creek Fire near White City and the Lower Dry Creek Fire near Milton-Freewater, each assignment requires firefighters to adapt to unfamiliar terrain and operate as part of larger interagency teams.
When local fire agencies are stretched by multiple incidents, additional engines, brush rigs, and trained personnel help strengthen suppression lines, support structure protection, and provide relief for crews working for extended periods. PAF&R's Engine 80 provides structural firefighting capability to support communities and incident bases, while Brush Rig 83 can navigate areas where a smaller, more maneuverable wildfire apparatus is needed.
These deployments reflect PAF&R's continued commitment to serve and support beyond airport boundaries when Oregon communities need help protecting homes, infrastructure, and natural resources. Thank you to the firefighters who support the team when they’re away, the PDX Maintenance team who ensures the readiness of the fleet, and to everyone who has shown appreciation during a demanding summer of wildland fire response.
