Mark Your Calendar for the PDX People Customer Service Awards
To recognize airport employees who truly stand out as extraordinary, we hold the quarterly PDX People Customer Service Awards. Winners in each category – along with their managers and members of our volunteer working committee – are invited to attend the event in person while it's live-streamed on Facebook on Tuesday, April 30.
Our guest speaker this quarter is Drew Basore with Arup. Drew is part of the PDX Operation Readiness, Activation and Transition (ORAT) team – the folks that bring you updates, information, interactive Share Out Sessions and more. At this event, Drew will talk about the transition to the new ticket hall and PDX Plaza, including key information, tools and upcoming engagement opportunities.

What’s New with PDX Next: Main Bag Road, Ticket Lobby, Concourse C and April Forum Main Bag Road: As a reminder, there’s a lot of work happening on main bag road, with multiple crews at all hours. If you drive on that road, make sure to use extra caution and practice safe driving protocols.
Ticket Lobby: Crews will shift one Southwest counter and scale and remove two counter positions and two kiosks to facilitate the extension of the temporary wall and build out the future north throat entrance. Crews will also remove one counter position and extend the temporary wall at the Delta ticket counter to the north to facilitate the build-out of the future south throat.
This work continues through the beginning of May during daytime and nighttime hours; you may also hear elevated noise levels during the demolition activities.
Concourse C: There may be periodic, elevated noise levels during façade removal on the outside of the building. Concessions closest to the outside work areas are Lardo, Stumptown and Capers. Work will continue through this Friday, April 26.
April Forum: Mark your calendars for Tuesday, April 30, at 10:30 a.m. to get the inside scoop on construction at PDX. Jen Reynolds from the Port of Portland along with Pat Bifone and Bri Leiblie of Hoffman-Skanska share the latest construction updates and answer your questions about PDX Next in just 30 minutes. If you'd like to join the meeting, email PDX People Communications today – Monday, April 29 – for the meeting link.

| 5 Ways to Celebrate Earth Day Every Day First held on April 22, 1970, Earth Day is an annual event to demonstrate support for environmental protection. The official theme for 2024 is "Planet vs. Plastics."
Plastic pollution is a global issue that destroys environments, diminishes biodiversity, increases global warming, and harbors immense potential to impact human health.
"Plastic isn’t the worst environmental enemy, and in some cases the use of plastic provides benefits compared to other materials," Erin Anderson, who heads the waste reduction program at PDX, said. "Reduced weight during shipping results in less fuel consumption and any negative impacts from plastic food packaging are quickly surpassed by the benefits of preventing food waste. The real environmental enemy is the growing dependence on single-use plastics instead of the slightly-less convenient option."
There are many ways each of us can reduce and responsibly use plastic in our daily lives. Here are a few ideas to change your personal plastic use and reduce your environmental impact.
- Carry a reusable bag.
- Bring your own reusable eating utensils, water bottle and coffee cup.
- Reject fast fashion and wear your clothes longer.
- Participate in a local cleanup event
- Reuse, reduce, recycle…with an emphasis on reuse and reduce!
