3809 Saunders Hearing Notice

Update to North Inglewood Neighborhood: Thanks to the diligence of Mary James Boyd, the work of hubNashville and the attentive reaction from Nashville Metro Codes and Nashville Metro Water Services, the rental properties of 3807 & 3809 & 3811 Saunders are under inspection.

Thanks in large part to neighborhood efforts, we are on the right track!
Finding affordable and SAFE housing shouldn’t be this hard. I promise to keep working on it.

It is worth noting that CSX is responsible for the train tracks and the easement around it. CSX is private property.  If you have a culvert behind your home that is near the tracks, as a responsible homeowner you should review it regularly and contact CSX to keep it clear. Particularly if your house is very very very close to a known stream and sits in a ditch.

I support the efforts of the Codes Dept on this issue. The worst of them is at 3809 Saunders.

February 8, 2019 – Codes received a phone call from a citizen stating the house was damaged due to flooding.  Upon our inspection, we found inoperable vehicles, vehicles parked on the grass, vacant buildings that needed to be boarded as well as junk and debris.  The property was deplorable – Codes issued notice for the owner to have all violations corrected on or before March 8, 2019.  The notice was issued on February 8, 2019.

On February 12, 2019, we made another inspection and stated that the owner will have to obtain permits to repair the damage to the structure, and we posted a Stop Work Order since the owner was making repairs without the required Building Permit.

On February 15, 2019, we did place the structures under a Code Demolition Action since 50% of the structure was damaged and there would need to be a Code Demo Hearing. A Certified Letter that was mailed to the property owner notifying him to be in attendance for this Hearing on April 4, 2019, at 8:45 AM.
A preliminary investigation was made by a Metropolitan Property Standards Inspector in accordance with the provisions of the Metropolitan Property Standards Code enacted by the Metropolitan Council as Ordinance No. BL-2001-585. The investigation made on 02/14/19, revealed that the structure located thereon appears to be unfit for human habitation because of existing conditions which do not comply with the Metropolitan Property Standards Code and which are therefore dangerous and injurious to the health, safety, and morals of the occupants of said structure or the occupants of neighboring structures, and other residents of Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County, Tennessee.

The Metropolitan Property Standards Inspector who investigated your property has prepared an inspection report and it is requested that you appear for a hearing before the Director or his designated agent regarding this report at 8:45 a.m. on April 4, 2019, in the Metro Office Building, 800 2nd Avenue, South, 3rd Floor. You and/or parties in interest may file an answer to this complaint and you may appear in person, or otherwise, to offer your testimony or the testimony of your witnesses in opposition to the inspector’s report at the above mentioned time and date.

Notes

  • TDOT has responded to my request to get Ellington Parkway north of Trinity Lane added to the maintenance work list. The folks of D8 will be happy to see the potholes & pavement problems addressed. Particularly around the exits all the way to Briarville.
  • PROPERTY TAX RELIEF DEADLINE APRIL 5: Metro Trustee Charlie Cardwell is reminding eligible property owners over 65 who may qualify for the Tax Relief program (income less than $29,270) and the Tax Freeze program (income less than $41,780). Totally disabled and Disabled Veterans also may qualify. Email for information
  • Impossible Crossings: The numbers of people killed and severely injured while walking in Nashville is on the rise. In 2017 we set a new record with 23 people killed while walking. In 2018 we matched that previously unmet record.  No one should be killed walking in our city. Let's commit to eliminating traffic fatalities.
