Over 100 bishops participated in the V Encuentro, to listen to 3000 Hispanic Ministry leaders from across the nation, a highlight of the gathering included The Young Adult Dinner (pictured above).

For the first time in 35 years, Catholic bishops from around the United States convened for the V National Encuentro — and Notre Dame sophomore Aaron Benavides had a hand in making the historic gathering a reality. Through a summer immersive learning experience, ILS' Cross Cultural Leadership Program, Benavides gained valuable skills, knowledge, and a better understanding for his role as a young parishoner in the Catholic Church.

ILS' Letras Latinas Director participates in the Dodge Poetry Festival | |

Francisco Aragón, Letras Latinas Director and Faculty Member, traveled to Newark during fall break to participate in the Dodge Poetry Festival. In addition to attending, Aragón was an invited Festival Poet and shared his work at the Newark Museum. He read from his previously published books, as well as, his forthcoming collection, His Tongue a Swath of Sky.

Community Health Leaders Discuss Local Latino Community Needs | |

Dr. Steve Larson, cofounder and the Executive Director of Puentes de Salud, Philadelphia joined ILS for a screening of Clínica de Migrantes, a film depicting Puentes de Salud, a clinic who treats 10,000 patients each year. Dr. Larson was joined by local community health leaders who discussed the needs of the Latino Community in South Bend, Elkhart, and Goshen and provided ways for students and community members to become involved.

ILS Director Luis R. Fraga hosts Latino Studies Seminar | |

The Latino Studies Seminar examines the research and publications of Notre Dame faculty, graduate students, and visiting scholars. Seminar sessions are convened in a communal atmosphere that fosters conversations across academic disciplines. Luis R. Fraga, Rev. Donald P. McNeill, C.S.C., Professor of Transformative Latino Leadership and the Joseph and Elizabeth Robbie Professor of Political Science, spoke on his work, "America at Its Best: Enacting the 1975 Voting Rights Act."

Friday, November 2, 2018 • 8:15 PM The ancient Meso-American tradition of Día de los Muertos - which is said to date as far back as 2,500 years ago - commemorate the memory of loved ones who have departed this earth and joined the afterlife in the realm of glory.
Join Campus Ministry for an evening celebrating the continuation of life after death.
