First Fridays!

The nights are dark and the weather is cold, so North Adams is getting extra cozy this First Friday! Downtown businesses will extend their hours with special events, like a free 7 p.m. screening of Museum Town in Hotel Downstreet's Studio B. The Plant Connector will be open late, Ciarra Fragale will play live music at Heart's Pace, artist-in-residence Linda Kentoffio will have an opening reception at Center of Gravity, and more! More info

Baritone George Gagnidze makes his Met role debut as the imperious king Nabucco, alongside soprano Liudmyla Monastyrska as his vengeful daughter Abigaille. Watch Verdi's Nabucco live in HD at the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown. The broadcast also is happening at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center in Great Barrington.

Antimony Brewing in Lenox offers live music every Friday and Saturday nights, and there is some great music on tap this weekend. Nate Martel performs on Friday night, and Misty Blues will play on Saturday. Martel is a singer, songwriter, and guitarist based in the Pioneer Valley. And local favorite Misty Blues performs classic rock and folk tunes infused with a healthy dose of the blues. Over the years, Misty Blues has produced ten albums. More info

Fun on First Sunday

at the Clark

Kick-start the year with moments of reflection, art, and imagination. Get creative with paper and glue as you design a journal and settle in with writing prompts that encourage everyone to reflect on the past year and dream for the year ahead. Theater artist David Lane leads two drama workshops designed for ages 12 and older. Free admission all day at the Clark. Special activities are in the Family Room, Conforti Pavilion, and Museum Pavilion. More info

Join by Zoom as OLLI presents an installment of its Distinguished Speakers Series. Kris Allen will give "An Introduction to the Music of John Coltrane." The lecture will give the highlights of the musical life of Coltrane; the cultural context in which it was created and received; and its varied artistic, philosophical, political, and spiritual legacies. Allen is the Lyell B. Clay Artist in Residence in Jazz and Lecturer in Music at Williams College and the director of the Williams jazz ensemble program. More info
