PDX People: Four Stories of Extraordinary Customer Service
Being knowledgeable is a core value for PDX People, but it doesn’t just mean knowing all the answers – it also means knowing who to ask for help, what questions to ask, what resources are available and sharing what you know with others. Using that knowledge and maintaining a friendly demeanor while problem-solving is how PDX People help make our airport one of America’s best.
To recognize actions that truly stand out and show gratitude for these efforts, we host the PDX People customer service awards each quarter. Read the stories of our latest winners or watch the recording of the live event.

2022 Guide to PDX’s Newest Shops and Restaurants
If PDX were a neighborhood, we’d probably consider it Portland’s fastest-growing dining destination. Some 16 restaurants, retail shops, bars and cafes have opened since 2020, including two in just the last month. In fact, more are on their way this summer. If you haven't managed to stop by in person, you can take the virtual tour of the newcomers now. Then, take a moment to tell us the concessions you'd like to see next and get entered for a chance to win some of Oregon’s best  including everything you need for the perfect coastal getaway, a chance to eat at some of Portland’s best restaurants and gift cards to use at PDX!
Be AWARE and You Could Win a $50 Visa Gift Card
You already know how to be an AWARE badgeholder – now you have the chance to win $50 just by helping keep PDX safe and secure.
Starting Tuesday, March 15, Global Security and Aviation Security teams will be at PDX conducting challenge plays. If you pass one of these plays, you’ll be entered in a drawing for a $50 Visa gift card.
Challenge plays might look like someone in a restricted area without a clearly displayed badge or someone piggybacking through a secure door. How do you pass a play? Challenge them: Approach the individual and ask to see their badge. Challenging is vital because it identifies people who are somewhere they're not supposed to be.
The first drawing is in June and three winners will be selected. After that, raffles will be held quarterly in September and December. Do your part to maintain a safe environment at PDX and you could be both an AWARE badgeholder and a lucky winner!
Be Knowledgeable: Lost and Found
Starting this week, Lost and Found office hours are changing to 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. Hours on Sunday through Friday remain the same. Keep in mind, Lost and Found’s open hours may vary each month based on staffing, and updated hours are always listed online
This change in hours is a good opportunity to brush up on Lost and Found policies, location and resources. The office is located on the north end of baggage claim, down the hallway across from carousel 10. During open hours, you should bring items found in the airport to this office. If that's not possible or if the office is closed, there are drop boxes in the following locations:
  • Outside Lost and Found in baggage claim
  • By the B/C and D/E TSA supervisor desks
  • On Concourse C near Henry’s Tavern
  • On Concourse E between Gates E7 and E
  • In south baggage claim, behind the desk of the south information booth
Items put in the drop boxes will eventually go to Lost and Found, but if the lost item is essential – think wallet, ID, medication, keys, cell phone or other necessities – call the PDX Communications Center at 503.460.4747 and let them know an essential item is in the drop box. There's also a place on the Lost and Found site where people can submit an inquiry about missing items – this is the best place to start if you or a visitor has lost an item at PDX.
Free Classes Help You Get Prepared for Wildfire Season
The Oregon Office of State Fire Marshal is hosting free online classes in May to help you get prepared for wildfire season. The series kicks off with a session focused on finances (May 3), which will cover how to review your insurance coverage, how to take a home inventory, and other ways to be financially prepared in the event of a wildfire or disaster. Other sessions will explore how homes really ignite during a wildfire (May 12), Oregon’s evacuation levels (May 19) and fire-resistant plants (May 24).
Asian Pacific American Heritage Month
The month of May marks a time of celebration for Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States  that includes people from the entire continent of Asia, the Pacific islands of Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia. This month was selected to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869. In 1990, President George H. W. Bush and Congress voted to expand the celebration from one day to a full month.
Take a moment to learn more about the people, messages and meaning of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month:
  • Read this year's presidential proclamation.
  • Explore the PBS collection examining the history, traditions and culture of Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States.
