TUSC Fitness: Night Lift in Tisch Gym

Calling all beginner, female, and non-binary lifters! On Thursday, February 17, at 7 p.m., come by to learn safe lifting techniques and explore the Tisch Fitness Center equipment in a judgment-free, supportive environment hosted by female-identifying student fitness instructors from TUSC Fitness. This event is free and open to all undergraduate students with Tufts ID.
Don't forget to wear appropriate fitness attire, including footwear, and have your mask and water bottle. Students without proper attire, footwear, or a mask will not be permitted to participate.

Tisch Undergraduate Research Awards Information Session

Are you particularly proud of a paper or project you completed in 2021? Did you receive high praise from your professor? Apply for the 2022 Tisch Undergraduate Research Awards! Tisch Library will be hosting an information session on the 2022 awards on Friday, February 18, at 12:30 p.m. ahead of the March 13 application deadline. Please plan to attend if you have any questions or if you would simply like to hear more about the awards!

Leading While Black: A Legacy of Transformational Black Leadership at Tufts University Watch Party

Please join us for Leading While Black, two moderated conversations on the legacy and future of Black executive leadership at Tufts over the past 50 years. This project engages eight luminaries on how they transformed governance, advanced equity, traversed boundaries, and enhanced the flourishing of generations of students, faculty, and staff. You're invited to the watch party on Saturday, February 19, at 1 p.m. in ASEAN Auditorium.

First-Year Engineering Design Challenge

Calling all first-year engineering students! The Tufts School of Engineering is hosting a design challenge, "Chain Reaction," on Saturday, February 19, at 15 p.m. in the SEC atrium. The challenge is to design a simple machine that demonstrates principles such as the transfer of energy or laws of motion. Machines from all teams will be linked together to create a large energy transfer system. You can sign up as a team of 4 or 5 or sign up individually and be paired with a group!

Are you interested in guiding first-year students through their transition to Tufts? If so, apply to be a leader with one of our eight Pre-Orientation programs! This volunteer opportunity is a great way for you to make a profound impact on campus while connecting with peers on shared passions. We look forward to reviewing your application, which is due on February 17 at 11:59 p.m.

Campus Climate Survey on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging

On February 14, you will receive an email from Associate Provost and Chief Diversity Officers Dr. Rob Mack and Dr. Joyce Sackey requesting that you complete the Tufts University Campus Climate Survey on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, which seeks to capture actionable insights on the lived experiences of community members. Your participation is important, and your responses will be used to inform action and develop initiatives—university-wide and school-specific. The survey will be open from Monday, February 14, to Friday, March 4.

Academic Reminders

March 1 is the deadline for first-year Engineering and sophomore Liberal Arts students to declare their major. Undecided and have questions? Attend a workshop this week!
Engineering Major Declaration Workshop, February 16, 12 noon–1 p.m. on Zoom: Hear from Dean Stephan, Robin Kahan, and the SOE Senior Academic Advisors on tips and a virtual "how-to-guide" on declaring your major. We will also have current students share about their majors and how they finalized their choice.
Liberal Arts Major Declaration Drop-In Advising, February 16, 12 noon–1 p.m. on Zoom: Stop by drop-in advising to ask the LA Senior Academic Advisors your questions about the major declaration process. We'll
answer questions about how to choose a major, find an advisor, and declare your major ahead of
the March 1 deadline.

TEDxTufts is thrilled to present our annual conference, "Undercurrents" on March 6 at Somerville Theatre. This year’s talks will delve into nuanced topics that ripple just below society's surface, paying particular attention to the underlying forces that propel our daily lives. Our speakers expose insidious injustices that tread dangerously under our collective radars and offer up innovative suggestions on how to keep future hopes afloat.
